?? A new release of the CLIMAAX Handbook Exciting news! The CLIMAAX project just released a new and updated version of the?climate risk assessment Handbook?which is the core tool of the project. Within the new version, the Framework for climate risk assessment has been updated for increased clarity and user-friendliness. All workflows in the CLIMAAX Handbook have been improved and have been extended with documentation of methodology and datasets, and illustrative examples. ?? Yesterday December 2nd the first 13 regions selected by the 1st CLIMAAX Open Call, introduced themselves and their climate risk assessment plans to the consortium!? This first "get to know" round?featured presentations from over 10 countries, insightful Q&A and experience sharing from Europe and beyond?? In the spirit of continuous learning, I recently completed a short course on "Nature-based Solutions for Disaster and Climate Resilience" provided by UN Environment Programme and The Partnership for Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (PEDRR), with support from the European Union. ???? This course emphasized the critical importance of working with nature, rather than against it, to enhance our capacity to protect and adapt to the impacts of climate change and disasters. ???? With the escalating challenges posed by climate change, it is essential that we relearn how to harness the power of nature to create sustainable, long-lasting solutions for our planet's future. ???? #nature #naturebasedsolutions #climateresilience

Councils can now access vital information about #climatechange in their area with a new online portal created by the world’s leading meteorological organisation. Launched last week, the Met Office’s Local Authority Climate Service allows decision makers, environmental health and planning teams to visualise climate change within their jurisdiction, presenting them with possible challenges that will emerge, projections and advice on how to effectively communicate climate stories. Partnering with Esri UK, the goal is to support climate adaptation planning, with the vast majority, with 6million Britons now considered to be at risk from #heat and #flooding according to research conducted by the #UniversityofManchester and #FriendsoftheEarth. Given the rise in numbers of vulnerable communities, local authorities need to prioritise adaptation measures and schemes, but very few are currently able to effectively act on this. Local authorities are key in building resilience to climate change in our communities across the UK,’ said Head of Climate Services at the #MetOffice, Professor Jason Lowe OBE. ‘It is vital that our climate projections are available in a format that makes them most accessible and useful for#localauthorities to apply in assessing risks and starting to plan how to best adapt to our changing climate.’ ‘By working with Esri UK we’ve embedded our data into a range of industry leading tools to ensure tailored climate information can be used by the people who need it, and with suitable guidance to help them apply it,’ he continued. ‘We know our climate is changing so it’s important we adapt to the extremes we’re likely to see more of. This new tool is a step forward in assisting local authorities minimise the impacts of climate change for the communities they serve.’

??EU Cities and regions are preparing for an uncertain future. To support cities and regions in their mission, @EUResearchandInnovation has created a centralized database of tools that simplify and streamline decision-making around climate adaptation. These include the ???????????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????? ???????? to assess community vulnerability to climate hazards, the ?????????????? ????????????, ???????? ???????????????????? ?????? ???????????????????? ???????? to identify flood risk hotspots and the ?????????????? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????? to support nature-based solutions to address rain, drought and heat risks. ?? Our first Climate Action Plan has been approved by the Council, and outlines our current and future response to climate change. ? The plan identifies 12 actions and 52 sub-actions designed to tackle the most serious climate risks to our region, everything from improving flood protection and managing pests to integrating climate change into council decision-making and supporting decarbonisation efforts in the region. ??
