In the "Age of Unpeace", #cleantech is at the heart of the multiple, simultaneous, interconnected crisis we are facing. #Cities are pivotal?for Europe’s cleantech deployment. They are not only victims of climate action, but also hotspots for green #reindustrialization. Delighted to be part of the European Commission's Advisory Board of #IntelligentCitiesChallenge and deliver the keynote speech at its Conference in Brussels last week. Some of the key insights were: ??Climate action is local action. Innovation happens locally. ??Cities are lead markets for cleantech. They produce 80% of EU GDP, implement?70% of EU policies and deliver?solutions?to citizens. ??Cities are?drivers of industrial production?and?cleantech deployment. See the case of #Sagunto, Valencia, #Mannheim or #Dunkerque ??City-business partnerships should be a "match made in heaven". But the reality is that cities and industries in Europe remain quite siloed. #LocalGreenDeals are linking them like pieces of a puzzle to achieve cities’ decarbonisation. ?? Governance: The city-business partnerships require a multi-level public-private governance aligning EU, national, regional and local objectives. This is the cornerstone for lasting change. ???Ecosystem is crucial: our?Cleantech Group team is supporting cities develop their ecosystems. Over the last years, we’ve worked with leading cities around the world, from Canada to New Zealand, to turn them into cleantech hotspots.?This is key to attracting and leverage investments.??Lucy Chatburn With the #CleanIndustrialDeal, Europe is back in the cleantech race. But now we need all the firepower to deliver on the targets. European cities are now called to unite and move forward fearlessly. We now need to re-purpose cities towards cleantech deployment, with speed and scale. ?? Now we need?“coalitions of the willing” of cities. In cleantech & beyond..??
