The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) has awarded West Biofuels, LLC over $7.5 million to kickstart the Community Scale Rural Bioenergy Facilities project; located in 3 separate communities in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. This initiative will represent a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions. It will also provide for greater grid resiliency and reliability. ?? With plans to deploy three community-scale bioenergy systems, West Biofuels will transform culled biomass into 100% renewable electricity and biochar soil amendments. This innovative approach not only generates clean energy but also enriches local soil health. ?? More importantly, this project addresses critical environmental challenges. By utilizing local biomass, prevention of forest fires will occur while providing stable, low-carbon energy for the targeted areas. Major Investment in Sustainability: The South Australian Premier, Peter Malinauskas announced a total investment of $90 million in the Jubilee Mill, which includes the installation of a new boiler and steam turbine. This project promises longevity of technology, reduced carbon emissions, and renewable energy contributions back to the grid. 2?? Decarbonization Goals: Wendy Norris, CEO of OneFortyOne, highlighted that this investment supports the company’s decarbonisation goals and prepares them for future opportunities in renewable energy generation. A recent report by Investec has found that one in seven UK farmers are turning to renewable energy in order to diversify their income streams. ? ?? 68% of farmers questioned have invested in biomass energy, then wind energy (51%), solar energy (39%), hydropower (23%) and lastly BESS (14%). The report also reveals that 90% of UK farmers interviewed claim to have received approaches from third party organisations who want to purchase carbon credits to offset their own emissions.
