Gregory Sampson was a guest at Governor Maura Healey’s ceremonial signing of “An Act Promoting a Clean Energy Grid, Advancing Equity and Protecting Ratepayers,” codified as Chapter 239 of the Acts of 2024. The event was attended by numerous state officials, legislative leaders, industry stakeholders and members of the Governor’s appointed Commission on Energy Infrastructure Siting and Permitting. Greg has served as a member of the Siting Practitioner Advisory Group that advised the Commission on ways in which the Commonwealth can improve the process to site clean energy projects, with the goal of facilitating the work that is needed to achieve the Commonwealth’s climate goals. Among other things, the new legislation will modify Massachusetts law to streamline the permitting processes for clean energy projects. The changes were developed based on the recommendations of the Commission and the work of the advisory group. #WhatsYourNext

Check out this editorial I had the opportunity to co-author with Kasia Baranek for the Wiley Climate & Energy Journal titled, "Advancing Equity in Utility Programs Through Community Engagement". Electric, natural gas, and water utilities, as well as infrastructure stakeholders across the United States are navigating an evolving landscape of federal, state, and regulatory initiatives where the term “equity” is a core principle prioritized in decision-making and project planning. The current regulatory environment, including key initiatives like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) alongside federal and state programs such as the Justice40 Initiative and California's Equity and Access Grant Program, is driving an equity-centered evolution for utilities. Within these frameworks, utilities are redefining and expanding their relationships with customers and the communities they serve.

The U.S. Department of Energy is seeking public feedback on the potential impacts of funding Columbus-based research organization Battelle to maintain the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub. But there's still much we don't know. It’s hard for locals to know what information on hydrogen would be relevant if they don’t know what type of project they’d be hosting, said Talor Musil, field manager with the Environmental Health Project in Pittsburgh. “Ohio River Valley communities are not interchangeable. Each has unique cultural, environmental and economic considerations.” WYSO reports on the first public scoping meeting for the draft environmental impact statement on the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub and the public comment period that runs until March 3. https://lnkd.in/ekybztRg

If an Indistry does not have the permit support of national & local governance, how can we realistically solve any climate problems ? Permitting should be the easy part. If an individual or their company has a proven track record of designing, building and operating a Green Energy Project, then a permit should be a formality not a barrier.
We appreciate the call out from Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Joe Manchin (I-WV) on ACP’s support for the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024—pivotal legislation to bring more clean, reliable, and affordable power to American businesses & consumers.

The Solar for All program, part of the EPA’s $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, is billed as an environmental justice measure to tackle climate change in communities excluded from the energy transition. But awardees are facing a 500,000-person-and-growing skilled labor shortage in the construction industry fueled by early retirements and recruiting problems. Learn how Solar For All Funding is aiding this shortage: https://lnkd.in/gct72JuP
