In celebration of World Environment Day 2024, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the SPROUT initiative: Sustainable Planting and Reforestation for Our Urban Territories, one of the significant projects of our Environment & Climate Change program of Youthpreneur Network The SPROUT project is dedicated to enhancing urban landscapes through strategically planting and nurturing trees, promoting a greener and more sustainable future for our communities. Urban areas face numerous environmental challenges, including air pollution, reduced green spaces, and the heat island effect. SPROUT aims to combat these issues by increasing tree coverage, improving air quality, and providing natural cooling and shading. Our mission is to plant thousands of trees across urban areas, fostering a healthier environment and improving the quality of life for all residents. We're shining a spotlight on the Rainforest Alliance's Forests Lead, Emmanuelle Berenger, who spoke at the panel “The Power of Trees: Preserving Forest Biodiversity” during the #ChangeNOW2024 sustainability summit a couple weeks ago! Some key takeaways that emerged from her discussion include: ?? Protecting standing forests is the most effective way to preserve forest biodiversity, and the best guardians of forest are the local communities who rely on them for their livelihoods and have developed a strong connection with nature. ?? While these communities are critical to protecting and restoring forests, they need to have the resources, ownership, and support to be able to do that. Investing in capacity building for managing locally-controlled forests can help communities develop the skills and social resources needed to protect their territories and lands after they have gained rights. ?? Did you know that every year, #tkGSG saves some CO2 emissions through our eco-friendly practices? From our energy-efficient building to waste reduction initiatives, we're constantly striving to minimize our ecological footprint. ?? ?? But our dedication to the planet doesn't stop there. We're proud to be actively involved in various eco initiatives, including reforestation in the Rybakówka forest. Our goal is to restore natural habitats and contribute to offsetting carbon emissions to mitigate climate change. Moreover, we are also organizing workshops like "Forest in a Jar”, where employees learn about the importance of ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. These hands-on experiences foster a deeper appreciation for nature and inspire us to take meaningful action to protect it. The newly established #tkGreen team organized a Green Event, during which we built nesting boxes for birds and prepared saplings of coniferous trees. These saplings will later be planted by foresters in nearby forests.
