Feeling like you’re failing at LinkedIn because you’re not constantly pumping out content? There’s another way—a simpler one. Recently, I switched my engagement strategy on LinkedIn. My impressions are down, but my sales are up! Here’s how I flipped the script: ??I started commenting like a madman! No generic “great post” comments here. I either demo my expertise or spark engaging conversations with questions. ??I’m sending a ton of DMs - especially audio ones. I’m here to connect and help, and the best way to deep dive into a topic is in the DMs. Period. ??I’m inviting people to spend time with me off the platform. Whether it’s coffee chats, Chemistry Calls, or my weekly Free Coaching Fridays event, I’ve learned trust grows faster when you take the connection beyond LinkedIn. There are plenty of ways to be “active” here. You don’t have to be the world’s best content creator to build your business. Does putting out content help? Absolutely! But it’s not the only way to grow. What matters most is consistency, authenticity, and connection. Your people are out there. Go find them. — P.S. Want to hang out with me and an amazing group of people? Join us for Free Coaching Fridays! Every week, 1-2 audience members step into the spotlight to receive coaching on whatever topic or challenge they’re facing. You can find the sign-up link in the Featured section of my profile, and check out recent participant reviews in my Recommendations. — Hi ???? I’m Clay I coach those who dare to be different. This is such a great take! So refreshing to see someone succeeding in their own way! Maybe I can sit in on one of those Friday calls! Not sure I need help with anything at the moment, but would love to see what they’re all about ???? I’m rooting for you Clay!
Ahhh, isn't intentionality wonderful Clay Gill. Dropping knowledge & value wherever you can changes the game, friends!
Great job! I’ll try to borrow this, Clay! How many times/week should I be pushing out content here? I love chiming in with comments daily but there’s conflicting info out there. I’m a content creating machine as a revolutionary ADHD expert with trademark-pending programs and 20 years exper before ADHD was a widely talked about schtick.
Great post ?? LOL. But on a serious note (as if I can get serious), I love this advice. Connection over consumption/content.
Relationships win every time.
That is where i am at now with linkedin. Reading that is exhausting. I try so hard to engage but man i fail at it. Thanks for the insights.
Well said Clay Gill. I really have seen a difference with the audio DM's . Makes more of a connection. Makes you real.
And when you do post, they are great posts Clay -- I learn a lot from you.
I love this! It's in line with what my LinkedIn coach Katie Rasure tells me to do! Honestly, it's a lot less pressure than having to write amazing posts every time. Interacting is what I like doing most in person, so why not do it here?

2 个月Clay, this is such a refreshing take on LinkedIn engagement! The shift from content creation to deeper connection-building is so smart—and honestly, it feels way more aligned with how I like to interact here. I love the focus on thoughtful comments, meaningful DMs, and taking conversations off-platform. It’s a great reminder that success isn’t about impressions; it’s about building trust and authentic relationships. Your Free Coaching Fridays sound like such a valuable resource—I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for sharing this strategy and flipping the script!
