Thanks to Jericho Road Pasadena for screening Uncharitable Movie. I learned that our culture has many misconceptions about charitable giving. People think "overhead" is bad and they want all their donations to fund the programs. Sadly, "overhead" is often what makes the programs sustainable and effective. The Downtown Women's Center recently adopted a 3-year strategic plan. Priority #1 includes increasing the minimum wage for our front-line staff to a living wage. We cannot do the work we do without paying staff a livable wage.
