CONFLICT MANAGEMENT: TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT - HILLBILLY ELEGY - BOOK AND SERIES https://lnkd.in/g8FQZqCB When transforming conflicts, one must be aware that in trying to improve them, one can cause more harm, as in the case of the Hillbilly Elegy, which insults an entire human group. I couldn't watch the show or read the book because I found it incredibly offensive. https://lnkd.in/gfC5CSXM The term "hillbilly" is historically offensive to stereotype and caricature people from rural, mountainous regions, particularly in the Southern United States. The term has been associated with negative connotations of poverty, ignorance, and backwardness, perpetuating harmful stereotypes about the people from these areas. Democrats should enter to defend the people and offer them opportunities to overcome social marginalization and alienation. Brokenness should not be a way to profit from it. https://lnkd.in/gYZ2Gbtd In popular media, hillbillies are often depicted as uneducated, uncultured, and living in extreme poverty, such as the characters in "The Beverly Hillbillies" TV show. These portrayals reinforce damaging stereotypes and overlook the diverse and complex realities of individuals and communities in these regions. We want to thank everyone who took action this week to protect funding for @AmeriCorps & @AmeriCorpsNCCC, and the vital resources they provide community-based organizations all over the country. This week, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would jeopardize more than 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, risking the loss of vital resources for community-based organizations all over the country in 2026. Congress still has opportunities to protect and strengthen this funding, and we’ll need advocates like you to voice your support in the months ahead. ???
