Eliminating peremptory strikes would not eliminate racism in the jury selection process; it's been a misguided suggestion offered for many years when evidence of abuse surfaces. Arizona went ahead and has tried it, and as discussed recently at the American Society of Trial Consultants (ASTC) conference, other states are mulling the concept. But one issue that often goes overlooked: peremptory strikes are most frequently used as a check against judicial bias (judges are human too, after all). A judge does not grant a well-reasoned and well-documented cause challenge, what recourse does a party have if peremptory strikes are gone? https://lnkd.in/e8EBGvBt

Conservatorships vs. Guardianships: What's the Difference Today? Conservatorships and guardianships today are more focused on protecting individuals’ rights, ensuring accountability, and exploring less restrictive ways to provide help. This means people have more say in their lives, and stronger safeguards are in place to prevent abuse.

???? #WHYNOT Reflect on Sacrifice and Freedom????? ?? Today, on #VeteransDay, we honor the bravery and commitment of those who have stepped up to protect our country. Since 1917, the Selective Service System has required young men, aged 18 to 25, to register, ready to defend our freedoms if called upon. This law empowers the government to make life-altering decisions about young men’s bodies—a responsibility they accept in service to us all. Recent Presidential candidate Kamala Harris was asked on a podcast if she could think of any law that gives the government the power to make a decision about a man’s body? Her answer was "No!" I disagree and propose that the correct answer is a resounding #YES, and it’s one that veterans have long honored in their duty. While women now serve with equal distinction, Selective Service remains an obligation solely for men. Since 1917, over a million service members, predominantly men, have made the ultimate sacrifice. They gave up their autonomy, putting service above self to uphold our collective ideals. Our all-volunteer force—men and women alike—continues this legacy, choosing to protect us at great personal cost. Today, let’s not only thank them but also remember the weight of their service. Their sacrifice safeguards the freedom we cherish. Let’s strive to honor their courage in our actions, our choices, and our lives. #VeteransDay #HonorAndRespect #FreedomIsNotFree #ServiceAndSacrifice #WHYNOT https://lnkd.in/gMMczs39

??? **Debate: Will a New Statue of Lady Justice Impact Our Legal System?** The recent unveiling of a new statue of Lady Justice has sparked conversations across the legal community and beyond. Some view it as a symbol of hope, renewal and a departure from the colonial hangover, while others question its practical impact on a system often perceived as slow and bureaucratic. On one hand, symbols can inspire change. A new Lady Justice could remind us of the ideals of fairness, equality, and the pursuit of justice. It might serve as a rallying point for reforms and ignite public interest in the challenges faced by those waiting for justice—many of whom have been in limbo for years. On the other hand, does a statue really change the reality for individuals stuck in lengthy legal battles? The delays in the system, lack of resources, and access to justice issues often overshadow the power of symbolism. Without substantial reforms, a statue may be little more than an ornamental gesture. What do you think? Can a new Lady Justice inspire real change, or is it just a beautiful distraction? Let’s discuss! ???? #Justice #LegalReform #LadyJustice #AccessToJustice
