This is an example of a community displaying how housing is the ultimate win-win. Housing doesn’t have to fall onto our federal housing partners or section 8 builders only. It doesn’t have to be just developers and millionaires. We can and will leave no stone u tire bed to find innovative solutions. Let’s go New Hampshire and let’s lead by example with our action. Anybody can point and say we need more money. But it takes a special person to roll up their selves and get in up to their elbow. We do this one resource, one person and one risk factor at a time. #povertyreduction #leadership #youthhomelessness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #community #career #investment

I'm such a fan of #communityengagement - such a powerful way to hear from people, explore different ideas and perspectives, and find ways to connect and collaborate. It is an important part of addressing the #polarity we seem to be experiencing across so many different topics. Some of the toughest questions we're experiencing in our communities can be tackled by engaging with people, surfacing ideas and perspectives, and finding common solutions. It is hard to be afraid of or stand in judgement of people when you are sitting across the table from them enjoying an egg-salad sandwich! Before you issue your next RFP for a challenge you're facing in your community, might I suggest you start with a facilitated community conversation to scope out the actual issues? #economicaloption Comment below to tell me about a sticky situation in your community or a helpful community conversation you've been part of. Let's learn from one another using this great example from the City of Lloydminster
Last week we posted congratulations to the City of Lloydminster for hosting a very robust and progressive community conference on housing and homelessness. The conference brought together almost 100 community members, agencies, businesses, and citizens to learn and explore with one another. To share the experience further, the City hired Cody Mazerolle from Maz Entertainment to record the event and support the audio visual needs for the day. The video recording from the day can be found at https://lnkd.in/gqfzXYeE We are sharing it here as the conference included panel sessions with speakers Ryan Veldkamp from the City of Red Deer, Natasha Pidkowa from the City of Lloydminster , Lori Richer from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, and Derek Ramage from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL). Their thoughts and perspectives were helpful to conference attendees, and may be informative for you as well. Our President/CEO, Scott Cameron handled the presentation/moderator duties for the day. Reach out if you have any questions or want to do something similar in your community. The value of #communityengagement is significant and we'd welcome the opportunity to help you work through your wicked questions.

THE HOMELESSNESS ISSUE Denver, CO, like many cities in America, has seen an increase in the number of residents experiencing homelessness. Having worked at The St. Francis Day Center in Denver, I learned how complex Homelessness is, and how amazing the people in outreach teams are, and the miracles they perform. I often talk about the issue while driving my clients through the city. Inevitably, my passenger will say, "Someone needs to fix this problem." You might feel it counterintuitive to throw money unconditionally into people experiencing homelessness. However, the preliminary data for the Denver Basic Income Project looks promising, similar to several other demonstration projects (e.g., The New Leaf Project https://lnkd.in/gSK5NYz7). Do you know how to get involved? Donate time, money, and/or corporate support to those organizations serving this population. Provide basic needs bags instead of money (toiletries, socks, high-value snacks, and water). Lastly, don't look away when you walk by them. Simply providing eye contact and recognizing their presence can make a day. - I am worthy of Love, Respect, and Dignity The Denver Basic Income Project's first-year report is a testament to the success of guaranteed income programs. By providing up to $12,000 annually, this program has reduced public service costs and significantly improved housing stability and financial health for people experiencing homelessness. The program's impact is best illustrated by success stories like Jolene Jachetta’s, who has found stability and employment. These stories drive our advocacy for permanent funding to address homelessness and enhance public health. #stfranciscenter #streetoutreach #homelessveterans #helpthehomeless #helphomeless #coalitionforthehomeless #homelessadvocate #homelesslivesmatter #homelesscrisis #donate

Florida, ranking among the top three most unaffordable states for living, is grappling with a severe affordable housing crisis that mirrors a nationwide trend. Soaring housing costs and household expenses are raising concerns about potential spikes in homelessness across the state. The Pinnacle team is continuously working with our partners to create more affordable housing options for Florida residents. This crisis is showcased by the overwhelming demand for Pinnacle 441, our affordable housing development in Hollywood, where 20,000 Floridians applied to live in just 113 units in Phase I. The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University reports that over a third of U.S. renters are cost-burdened, underscoring the desperate need for solutions. #affordablehousing #privatepublicpartnership #realestate #CREnews #community #development #realestate #workforcehousing #neighbors #houising #southflorida #miamidade #housingnews #affordablehousingnews #workforcehousingnews #news #floridarealestate #marketratehousing #apartmentliving

This The Seattle Times article by Heidi Groover does a great job highlighting the opportunities and challenges of building affordable housing on church-owned land. Churches across Seattle are stepping up to help solve the affordable housing crisis by transforming their underused land into affordable homes. It's inspiring to see this movement, where faith-based institutions, guided by their mission, are turning dreams into reality. However, the challenges they face—long planning timelines, limited funding, and a complex development process—are immense. Our partners at Enterprise Community Partners and The Nehemiah Initiative are doing incredible work helping churches navigate these barriers. They’re providing technical assistance, predevelopment funding, and the know-how to help these congregations bring housing to life. At LISC Puget Sound, we’re proud to be a part of this movement, building capacity, braiding funding sources, and leveraging HEA developers to ensure faith projects across Puget Sound succeed. We’re also supporting policy initiatives that make these developments more feasible, while working alongside leaders like Rev. Wayne Wilson to strengthen the connection between affordable housing and community faith-based efforts. Together, we can collaborate to create solutions that not only tackle the housing shortage but also build healthy, thriving communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. By working hand-in-hand, we can ensure that these developments contribute to a more equitable and inclusive future for all. #AffordableHousing #FaithBasedDevelopment #HousingSolutions https://lnkd.in/gjRTFYtT

We at CWA and CES understand that the housing-supply crisis present across the State of Michigan and the United States is a problem that effects all walks of life - and solutions are often complex. It's for that reason we'd like to share the following Second Wave Media article that covers a few examples of progress within Michigan that demonstrate how important collaboration between organizations is when tackling the housing gap. The Regional Housing Partnerships that were created as part of the State of Michigan first-ever statewide housing plan are active in solving the complexities surrounding the housing challenge. (The linked article is part of Second Wave Media's "Block by Block" series, supported by FHLBank Indianapolis, which follows small-scale minority-driven development and affordable housing issues in the state of Michigan.)
