Controllers, what do you need to do your job effectively? I have been occasionally working as a controller and control room manager for years now, these jobs can be anything from 2 days to 4 months but usually they consist of a 4-day show with 1 day of briefings beforehand. They are a perfect filler between longer gigs, a great way to make new industry connections and see how other people are running their shows, I would highly recommend giving it a go! The thing that makes all the difference for a group of controllers is the information they are given, below is the list of what is needed: COMMUNICATIONS Contact list ?? Channel list ?? Landline phone numbers ?? Log template ?? EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Hierarchy of control ???????? Lost & missing persons policy ? Comms down procedure ?? MAPS MAPS MAPS Arena site map ?? Overall site map ??? Traffic map ?? Public facing ‘fun’ map ?? PLANS AND POLICIES Event safety and fire management plan ?? Security management plan ?? Traffic management plan ?? Medical & welfare and management plan ?? TIMINGS Shift patterns doc - we don’t want to wake you up! ?? Operational timings doc, car parks, info points, you name it, we want to know the timings! ??? Set times ?? Control is there to represent the processes and policies of the festival, the more information that is given to the control room the better it will function and the less it will need to depend on the knowledge of the festival's full-time staff What have I missed from this list? It certainly isn’t exhaustive! Finally, what data do controllers record for the festival directors, gate numbers, and venue capacities? Here's why: let's look at their responsibilities: Receptionist: First Point of Contact: When guests arrive, the receptionist greets them, checks them in according to their reservation, assigns rooms, and provides room keys. Information Hub: The receptionist conveys essential details, such as breakfast timings and gym locations. 24/7 Availability: In most hotels, the front desk operates around the clock, so guests can call anytime for information or assistance. Administrative Tasks: The receptionist handles check-ins, check-outs, and guest inquiries. Bellboy: Luggage Handling: Bellboys help guests with their bags, escorting them to their rooms ( in Golden Palace Hotel the receptionist who plays the role of supporter does that). Guest Services: They provide information about the hotel, amenities, and services. Message Delivery: Bellboys deliver messages and packages to guests. Transportation Arrangements: They arrange transportation for guests. Focused on Luggage: Their primary duty revolves around handling luggage and providing general support.
