As Chair of #NCTD, I’m excited to share that the North County Transit District has been awarded a $10.2 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (aka: RAISE) program. This dedicated funding will be used to obtain environmental clearance and complete preliminary engineering for the east segment of the SPRINTER Corridor Service Improvement Project. The Project will construct 9.5 miles of double track along NCTD’s SPRINTER hybrid rail corridor which connects the cities of Escondido and San Marcos. This is a major milestone in the District’s effort to improve SPRINTER service frequency from 30-minutes to 15-minutes. Once completed, this project will add to the convenience of taking transit in North County by improving access to major regional employment centers, educational institutions, health care providers and other essential destinations. Improved service frequency encourages more people to get out of their cars and on to transit which will in turn improve air quality and reduce congestion on adjacent roadways. It’s a win-win. In addition to supporting #Sprinter hybrid passenger rail service, the SPRINTER Corridor also supports BNSF freight services. Double tracking will enable freight services to increase frequencies, enhancing the movement of goods and supporting an efficient supply chain in southern California. This grant from the U.S. DOT builds upon funding the District has already received from Congressman Mike Levin and the FTA to modernize SPRINTER signal infrastructure. This combination of signal modernization and double tracking, will enhance public transit in North San Diego County, strengthen our region’s transportation infrastructure and economy and improve our air quality. Quite a package! #GoNCTD #PublicTransit

?? Hey everyone! It’s Rail Safety Week! Just a quick reminder to keep it safe around the tracks. Here are three easy tips: 1. Mind the Signals: Seriously, those lights and bells are there for a reason. Don’t just breeze through. 2. Stay Off the Tracks: Trains don’t stop on a dime, so keep your distance. 3. Use the Crossings: Always cross at designated spots. It’s way safer and easier! Let’s keep ourselves and others safe out there! Sharing an activation below related to Rail Safety Week. #RailSafetyWeek #StaySafe

US High-Speed Rail Map Shows Proposed Routes The first stage of the new network proposed by the USHSR would see construction focused around seven regions, including lines connecting Dallas to San Antonio and Houston, Chicago to Minneapolis and Detroit, and New York City to Washington, D.C. This stage includes the completion of the California High-Speed Rail, a line already under construction that is intended to run between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It also proposes a line linking Las Vegas, Nevada, to Los Angeles, similar to a line currently being built that will connect Las Vegas to southern California. https://ow.ly/jQBR50SCRQw

A new rail research project led by UC San Diego in partnership with MTI at San Jose State University and Kansas State University has been selected for a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant. The project—Development of a Passenger Railroad Trespassing Mitigation Toolbox, Addressing Built Environment and Human Factors Based on California Railroad Data—will research trespassing accidents on passenger railroads to better understand the attributes related to areas of high trespassing activity along six rail lines in California and aims to develop a toolkit to understand how, where, and why trespassing occurs and to propose preventative measures. “Today’s investments in our rail systems reflect the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more resilient transportation network,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg of the grants. Spartan pride is in full force as SJSU joins this project, adding to work that enhances the safety and resilience of our nation’s rail systems! https://lnkd.in/gTGQmm5Y Lucas College and Graduate School of Business at SJSU #AmazingUTCs #TransportationResearch #TransitSafety #PassengerRailroad
