Our entire team is rarely in the same place at the same time, but we were able to gather a small group together for #CityHallSelfie Day. Although he wouldn't look at the camera, we even convinced Turk, one of our vegetation management specialists, to join the shot. #Goat

Such a joy to see the biodiversity of a fully innundated floodplain. This project demonstrates how large scale floodplain reconnection can be done while preserving a recreational river. https://lnkd.in/giWCm43V
Have you ever wondered what life looks like underwater at a river restoration site? Last month, our Middle McKenzie restoration team snorkeled through Finn Rock Reach to better understand the geomorphology of this recently-restored aquatic habitat. We observed native McKenzie redsides rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, juvenile Chinook salmon, Western painted turtles, Western pearlshell mussels, crayfish, macroinvertebrates, and many other species. With Spring Chinook salmon set to spawn here later this month, it's clear this restoration project is already making a big impact just one year after completion. Seeing these species thrive in their restored habitat was a powerful reminder of the importance of ongoing conservation work on the McKenzie River.

Chilcotin River Landslide Information Portal: A Vital Resource for Real-Time Updates Late in the evening of July 30, 2024, a large landslide occurred on the Chilcotin River about 30 kilometres upstream of the Fraser River confluence, causing a complete blockage of the river’s flow. The landslide site is roughly 22 kilometres upstream from the Farwell Canyon Bridge/Forest Service Road. The material that was deposited in the river is estimated to be roughly 1,000 metres in length, 600 metres in width, and roughly 30 metres deep. This rapidly evolving situation necessitates frequent and timely updates to keep the public informed. To meet this critical need, GeoBC is spearheading efforts to gather and integrate a wide array of imagery—including drone footage, videos, orthophotos, and LiDAR data—into the newly launched Chilcotin River Landslide Information Portal. www.gov.bc.ca/landslide The primary objective of this portal is to provide near real-time information to the public, with maps and images playing a central role in understanding the event's impact and progression. The portal serves as a comprehensive resource where the latest data, imagery, and relevant information are made accessible to all and contribute to the overall understanding and recovery from the event. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the dedicated team at #GeoBC Kerry Kang, Michael Dykes, Nadia Lee, Yunyani (Ella) Li, Evan Timms, Ben Arril for developing the Portal. Thanks to @James Thompson and the Imagery Team at GeoBC and hardworking staff in the Ministry of Water Land and Resource Stewardship #WLRS @Conney Chapman, Yannic B. and Emergency Management and Climate Readiness #EMCR for their exceptional coordination in launching this portal within an 18-hour turnaround time. I encourage everyone to explore the Chilcotin River Landslide Information Portal to stay informed about this significant event. The portal will continue to be updated as new data and imagery products become available. #LandslideResponse #GeoBC #PublicSafety #ChilcotinRiver #EmergencyManagement #RealTimeUpdates #EMCR #PublicSafety #ESRI #ESRICanada
