Whenever I conduct HR workshops to discuss progressive HR practices and employees grievance, I am reminded of the immense pressure HR carries in such cases. Many still point fingers at HR for siding with the perpetrator in the interest of the company. Often forgetting that while HR is responsible for facilitating the investigation and intervention yes, the company always has the final say. It is upsetting to see HR be a target in every scenario. Caught between values and consequences and taking the fall. As someone who grappled with conflicting values early in my career, I deeply relate to the challenges and feelings of isolation and anxiety. While #Singapore inches forward with the Workplace Fairness Legislation, there is still a huge gap to fill. I believe there is potential in infrastructures like an independent reporting channel for workplace harassment matters or laws that mandate an investigation, ensuring HR professionals cannot be wrongfully fired or retaliated against. So that employees and HR feel safe to do the right thing. Let us protect our HR so they can be there for the people keeping the business running.
