Earlier this year, Slade Associate Principal Greg Bencivengo traveled to #Copenhagen and #Malmo with Circular San Antonio to research the impact of circular economy at the scale of the city, and the individual building. The cross-disciplinary delegation comprised professionals from government, deconstruction, design, urban farming, waste management, plastics, and more. Reflecting on this research, Greg and colleagues Wei Wang, AIA, LEED AP BD C from Dattner Architects and Hannah Wilson from Arup, recently gave a series of lectures to colleagues and students with the aim of comparing the sustainable design and cultural practices in Copenhagen and NYC, where they live and work. The most recent, a lecture and workshop with M. Arch students in Parsons School of Design - The New School Construction Technologies studio course “The Contemporary Vernacular”, looked at how regenerative technologies can reduce excess material use. The lecture introduced the students to principles of circularity and designing for disassembly as a strategic way of thinking about design, rather than as a prescribed process.
Really exciting to hear this update. It's always great to see how learnings from our delegation visits to Europe can be brought back to the US. Thanks for sharing this update!
