This is the best exercise for MMA fighter and grapplers to build wild takedown power. In order to pick someone off the ground and take them down in MMA or grappling sports, you need to be able to rapidly produce a large amount of force from your hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. There is no better exercise to mimic this than the deadlift. For athletes, I prefer the trap bar or sumo variations because they can be easier to teach, and can transfer better to your sport. But if you have experience with conventional deadlifts, they can also be great options for takedown strength. Make sure when performing deadlifts, you engage your glutes, brace down into your ribcage, and maintain a neutral spine throughout the exercise.
