Xscape Photonics is a tech startup that focuses on utilizing photonics to create scalable, high-bandwidth, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for the upcoming era of AI, ML, and simulations hardware. Their ChromX platform, which is being developed with the aid of recent $44 million Series A funding, is a multi-color, programmable photonics solution intended for AI data center networks. This technology aims to improve energy efficiency, performance, and scalability as AI-driven workloads are predicted to consume over 20% of energy in data centers by 2025, meeting the increasing demand for data bandwidth. Cool startups using integrated #photonics for novel applications! ?? In the past days, I have been going around #CES to talk to startups that make use of #siliconphotonics to understand what they do, why they are here at CES, and what they expect to see happen in 2025 ?? My first video is with Walter Stockwell from ANELLO Photonics. Anello Photonics uses photonic chips to make very accurate and small optical gyroscopes that allow you to navigate where there is no GPS signal. They are visiting CES to talk to customers from various application fields and get feedback on their products and recently raised their series B. Here at CES they just launched their new product for the Maritime sector. German photonics startup Akhetonics raises €6 million Will use funding to grow its workforce and further develop its forthcoming photonics processor German photonics startup Akhetonics has raised €6 million ($6.33m) in a seed funding round. First?reported by TechCrunch, the round was led by Matterwave Ventures and follows a €2.3m ($2.4m) raise closed by the company in July 2024. Founded in 2021, Akhetonics is working on the development of an optical general-purpose processor to solve two of the biggest problems currently facing AI and HPC hardware; the memory bottleneck and energy inefficiency. By using light instead of electrons to process and store data, the company says its chips will be much faster and more #energyefficient than electronic processors, reducing the cooling and #power requirements of servers while also lowering application latency. According to Akhetonics, its ultimate goal is to have its optical cross-domain processing unit – also known as an XPU – combine analog, #digital, and quantum computing principles on a single platform. Headquartered in #Berlin, #Germany, the company says its chips are built using a “purely European supply chain, from fabrication to packaging.” Akhetonics plans to use the latest funding to expand its workforce and support the commercialization of its forthcoming product, which it aims to demonstrate a full prototype of by 2026. https://lnkd.in/e5GaNTZD
