I would like to extend my sincere thanks to IVPN-Network, FZ, LLE for organizing this invaluable educational event on COPD. The insights shared were truly impactful, and I greatly appreciate the dedication of the speakers for delivering such comprehensive and informative presentations. Take-home messages: -- COPD exacerbations can have a long-term impact on patients' health and well-being, beyond the lungs, and significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular complications and premature death. -- Proactive management to prevent COPD exacerbations and reduce the risk of premature death should be key priorities for clinicians. -- According to the ETHOS and KRONOS studies, triple therapy with Budesonide/Glycopyrrolate/Formoterol led to significantly reduced use of rescue medication, improved FEV1, and reduced the rate of moderate or severe exacerbations. -- COPD patients with raised eosinophil counts not on ICS were at higher risk of exacerbation. -- The DECAF score is effective and feasible in predicting mortality and early discharge in patients hospitalized with AECOPD. It was great to get out of the office for the afternoon, catch up with lots of familiar faces and meet new and interesting people at the Large Format Retail Association (LFRA) forum last Thursday. My two main highlights were: - the discussion with Mirja Viinanen, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer from IKEA about the different sales formats Ikea has been investing in as well as its market leading sustainability initiatives; and - Craig Woolford's retail market presentation where he conveyed that: ?? Retail Spending Trends: From 2019 to 2024, retail spending saw above-trend growth, with a significant recalibration in FY24 due to higher interest rates and living costs. Despite a 4% decline in FY24, the average growth over five years was just over 5%. ?? Consumer Behavior: Households are expected to have more disposable income in the next 12-24 months due to easing interest rates and upcoming tax cuts. However, consumers are maintaining a budget-conscious mindset, leading to careful spending. ?? Retailer Performance: Profit margins for most retailers have improved since FY19, with some exceptions in discount department stores. Store growth is slowing, and retailers are focusing on optimizing existing floor space. ?? Future Outlook: The retail sector is expected to see a soft recovery, with household goods likely to benefit the most. Retailers are adapting to changing consumer behaviors and economic conditions to maintain profitability. ?? Retail Floorspace Supply: Retail floorspace supply growth will be slow for the next five years, pushing up rents. Major incumbent retailers stand to benefit with better like-for-like sales growth. Whilst the delivery of housing is on everyone's minds at the moment, there are still opportunities for retailers and retail asset landowners to re-evaluate and optimize their existing floorspace and sites. This year marks my second time participating in the Assembly and the Insurance Europe conference, and it’s been an incredible experience. We’re here with our Chief Supervisory Board member,Ulviyya Jabbarova connecting with insurance associations from around the world to discuss the challenges they face and the latest industry trends. Representing Azerbaijan on this global stage is an honor. Unlike previous years, our presence is more recognized, and it’s thrilling to see the world—from Korea to Chile—taking a keen interest in Azerbaijan, especially with inquiries about our initiatives and the upcoming COP29 Azerbaijan event in November. GFIA was established on October 9, 2012, during a meeting in Washington. Its mission is to enhance industry effectiveness in international regulatory dialogues and address issues of common interest. Prior to GFIA, the International Network of Insurance Associations (INIA) was active since 2008. Today, GFIA represents 42 member associations and 2 observer associations across 70 countries, covering around 89% of global insurance premiums. GFIA is incorporated in Switzerland, with its secretariat based in Brussels. It has been my privilege to speak on Tuesday, 12 November, on behalf of the Επιτροπ? Κεφαλαιαγορ?? _ Hellenic Capital Market Commission in the annual IIA Greece Conference at a fireside chat with Anthony Pugliese and Michail Bletsas focusing on the role of the internal auditor, the changes in the relevant profession and our view of how the internal auditor of the future should be. Our Moderators Aris Dimitriadis and Mary Papakonstantinou posed questions regarding a number of relevant issues and we had the chance to speak about the challenges of the work of the internal auditor from different perspectives each. My view regarding the internal auditor of the future is that she/he should always have the integrity and ethics required for this role and also be in a position to adapt to changes occurring due to technological evolution of the way companies operate and leverage technology in improving the work of internal auditing. As I mentioned in the Conference Hirakleitos has first analyzed the power of change.
