Cities need to promote their new businesses maybe even more than the new businesses need to promote themselves. To stay agile, cities need new and upcoming businesses. Showcasing these new businesses seems to only make sense. As potential customers learn about your new businesses, they gain pride in their community, network, and may develop their own entrepreneurial ideas. Each city or region has the opportunity to grow. Just like we as individuals need to grow and adapt, it's important for cities and regions to make adjustments over time in order to keep an edge and not stagnate. Tech startups should look beyond traditional hubs like Silicon Valley, Austin, and Boston. Michigan, and its incredible cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and Marquette, offer an incredible opportunity for growth with its vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, lower living costs, extreme quality of life, access to fresh water, world class universities, rich talent pool and proximity to global financial markets like Chicago, Toronto, and New York. However, to truly attract and retain these startups, Michigan needs to do a better job of showcasing its success stories and telling its story. By effectively sharing the achievements of local businesses and the supportive environment they thrive in, we can elevate Michigan's reputation as a premier destination for innovation. This storytelling isn't just about promoting the state—it's about inspiring and attracting new entrepreneurs and investors who see the potential in Michigan's unique landscape. Putting together a pitch deck, forces you to get to know every aspect of your business.

I have always been closely involved in environmental and social fields. Recently, I've had the opportunity to focus more on entrepreneurship. Last week, I participated in the Latitude59 conference in Tallinn, which was an amazing experience for me. Latitude59 2024 aims to leverage the startup and tech community's talent and tools to tackle global crises. The two days were packed with meetings, allowing me to reconnect with good acquaintances and expand my network with new connections. The presentations sparked many thoughts, particularly on how academia and the private sector can collaborate more closely despite their inherent differences. Moreover, city planning could benefit from being more agile. One standout message was, "Let Europe be Europe: stay as you are and do not copy others." The startup pitches were particularly fascinating. They reinforced my belief that, beyond financial goals, startups should also aim to create social and environmental value.
