Demystifying the process of architecture: When we start a remodel, either residential or commercial, we need the spaces drawn in CAD. Often no prior drawings exist to build our design files from (and even when they do exist, they're often not quite what was built or what exists currently). This is how we go about measuring a space. https://lnkd.in/en2ASBjg

Determining the cost of installing phenolic panels for a project can be tricky. The cost is often determined by the amount of labor, the type of cladding system, and the materials that are used. Other factors like attachment methods, panel customizations, climate and more, play a role as well. Want to learn more about the upfront install costs and the factors that influence it? Designers: There's only a week left to nominate your mass timber or light-frame project(s) for the 2025 Wood in Architecture Awards! Presented each year, the awards recognize achievements in mass timber, light-frame, and hybrid buildings in the U.S.—celebrating innovative wood design that positively impacts building occupants, their communities, and the environment. Start your nomination: woodworks.org/nominate Awards will be presented at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design in Boston, MA in June 2025. FAQs Q: Does the project need to be fully completed (not in construction) to be nominated? A: Projects must be fully constructed (by 1/25/25) to meet the submission requirements, but not necessarily occupied. Q: How many photos can be uploaded? Should we upload photos of the project at various stages – drawings, construction progress, and the finished project? A: Any photos that best tell the story of the nominated project are welcome. Submit the photos that will most help the jury understand the project, including finished photography, and how it best meets the award criteria. A variety of interior and exterior shots tend to show projects in their best light and provoke the best discussions. We recommend around 15 images, but feel free to provide more as you see fit. Q: Can we submit a project in more than one category? A: We are no longer segmenting the awards by building category so one submission is sufficient for each project. When completing a nomination, you’ll be prompted with a series of questions asking you to describe how your project meets each of the criteria. You can nominate as many qualifying projects as you wish. The Art of Building Design Building design is the harmonious fusion of functionality and aesthetics. It combines architectural creativity with engineering precision to create spaces that are safe, efficient, and visually appealing. A successful design considers factors like environmental impact, energy efficiency, and user comfort. Modern trends emphasize sustainable materials and smart technologies, enabling buildings to adapt to changing needs while reducing carbon footprints. Collaboration between architects, engineers, and contractors ensures a seamless translation of concepts into reality. Ultimately, building design is more than creating structures; it’s about crafting environments that inspire and improve the quality of life for those who use them.
