Podcasts continue to grow across the board. It's become a format of content that anyone can participate in, and everyone wants a piece of. Spotify pushing this hard into podcasts has a number of implications, from Spotify created content and ad sales potential, to continued change in user behavior. As an avid podcast listener myself, it's amazing how this development has done for me what Netflix did for me when it first came out... consolidation. I don't need multiple apps or sources for my content when it's all so convenient and well laid out in a single app, Spotify. Continued investment in podcasts has its own revenue potential, sure, but it's also another user acquisition and retention mechanism as well.

Spot on (pun somewhat intended). Consolidation, choice and convenience - these are the "musts" for content going forward. That shift is a big reason why old media struggles to hold our attention.
