Last week Saturday I had my last Global Changemakers Mentorship session with my mentor, Anthony Emeribe! I was the only Nigerian selected on a 50% scholarship as one of the 19 participants/mentees in the 12-week Global Changemakers Mentorship Program. We were trained on leadership skills, empathy, project and resource management. I'm not going to lie, in the past, the idea of mentorship made me cringe only because I didn't like putting so much pressure on one person to give me advice and listen to all my problems. The GCM Mentorship Programme definitely changed my mind! The first time I applied, I didn't get in so, when I tried a second time, I honestly had no expectations of what the program would be like. My little to no expectations were definitely surpassed. The GCM journey was amazing! Not only did I learn more about myself and create a project of impact (keep your eyes peeled for that one ??), I also learnt about team management, empathy and how to persist even when things go wrong. Hearing Anthony's stories about how he kept going even when he failed and how he surrounded himself with people who had a similar vision as his was inspiring to say the least. I have a tendency to doubt myself a lot and when I did that, Anthony always encouraged me. I also happened to meet some amazing (I've said that twice now ??) people and made great friends (shout out to Varsha Purohit and Tanvi Anand) This was, dare I say it again, an AMAZING experience so, if you are also a young global citizen I definitely advise you to apply for the next cohort!
