Children's Mental Health Week 2024 will take place from 5-11 February. This year's theme is 'My Voice Matters'. The aim of the campaign this year is to empower children from diverse backgrounds and abilities to collaborate in fostering positive changes for their mental health and overall wellbeing. During Children's Mental Health Week all children and young people, whoever they are, and wherever they are in the world, should be encouraged to be able to say – and believe - "My Voice Matters". Enabling children and young individuals with the necessary resources to articulate themselves can be transformative. When empowered, individuals experience enhanced wellbeing. Kids and youth who perceive their voices as significant and impactful tend to foster stronger community bonds and higher self-esteem. So important for neonatal staff to be aware of this resource. Neonatal parents may struggle with how they feel about their baby. These 3 important questions can make all the difference to open up a conversation and help support parent-infant relationships on the neonatal unit. What 3 words or phrases would you use to describe your relationship with your baby? What brings you the most joy in the relationship with your baby? What is your biggest fear about your relationship with your baby? Start the conversation. #parentinfantrelationships #neonatalpsychology #parenting #neonatal
We were delighted to be involved in helping to shape this vital new resource from Department of Health and Social Care https://lnkd.in/etwvdp_p The guidelines are designed to help practitioners to identify early difficulties in parent-infant relationships and to support them in referring families onto specialised parent-infant relationship teams and services where appropriate. As well asking caregivers their views, the new prompts also encourage practitioners to consider what babies are communicating through observation. The baby's voice is such a crucial part of understanding parent-infant relationships & more about the development of babies. This new set of guidelines, and especially the consideration of the baby's voice, resonates well with our recently announced theme for Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (10th - 16th June) where we're asking politicians to #Speakupforbabies Find out more about IMHAW here ?? bit.ly/42nUI63 #IMHAW2024

It's great to see our colleagues championing change. Chloe Rawson-Dunne, mental health practitioner in Bury community mental health team, recently completed a project to improve care for people with a learning disability and/or autism. Chloe explained: “We’ve seen an increase in people accessing services who also have a learning disability and/or autism. "As a trained learning disability nurse, I noticed a gap in knowledge of how to best support these people, not through any fault of the practitioners but due to a lack of in depth training. So, I created a handbook for colleagues with helpful information on how to support them and ways we can adapt to meet their needs." If you work for us and have an idea to improve things, check out the ideas hub and change champion project on your intranet ?? #PennineCareChange #PennineCarePeople #PennineCareQI

Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner @ Life Without Barriers | Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Care
The experience of living in out-of-home care can leave profound scars on the mental health of children and young people. Removed from families and familiar environments, they grapple with loss, trauma, and the constant uncertainty of their situation. Frequent placement changes and disrupted attachments make it difficult to build a sense of stability and security, contributing to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Educational challenges, often stemming from their experiences, further erode confidence. Social isolation and stigma add another layer of hardship, as they navigate life trajectories different from their peers and grapple with negative perceptions associated with being in care. Access to crucial mental health support, unfortunately, remains a significant hurdle due to overburdened systems and limited resources. Recognizing these unique challenges is crucial. Only through a collaborative effort involving child protection agencies, mental health professionals, educators, and the community can we create a supportive and nurturing environment that helps these resilient individuals heal, build self-worth, and overcome the long-term impact of their challenging beginnings. Let's amplify awareness, foster understanding, and work together to provide the support these incredible young minds need to flourish despite their adversities. Together, we can make a lasting impact on their lives and empower them to build brighter futures. ?? #OutofHomeCare #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #advocacy #socialjustice #socialwork

“It’s not just about adults not understanding anymore. Many young people are finding solutions devised by adults to address our youth mental health crisis are actively harming them.” Poignant words from Ananas Mustafa, Director of Programs with Colorado Youth Congress (CYC) and member of our current youth wellbeing community of practice here at Gary focused on identifying more avenues for youth to offer peer-to-peer support to one another. The research on this subject is clear: Not only do?youth-to-youth peer support strategies help young people in distress, they also benefit the individuals providing support. What’s more, young people are often in some of the best positions to assist their peers,?as they can often identify signs of struggle, understand the community issues their peers are grappling with, and notice warning signs before adults. With that research at heart, the learning agenda we worked through this cohort to establish has been simple: What if adults got out of the way and gave young people more opportunities to support themselves? The learnings have been illuminating, and it's been an honor to work alongside all six members of this cohort, which include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, The Center on Colfax, GALS Denver, Struggle Of Love Foundation and Wezesha Dada Center Learn more about the work and key early takeaways here: https://lnkd.in/gCvPk5K3 #mentalhealthmonth #youthmentalhealth #youthwellbeing #peertopeersupport #earlyintervention #prevention
