Our Heart Center has achieved important milestones in short-term outcomes based on STS-defined benchmarks like operative mortality. But true quality and safety should be judged by more than short-term metrics alone. The cardiac surgery team launched long-term outcomes reporting by condition and hopes more hospitals will report similar statistics.?https://lnkd.in/dn8-x3c9

I'm thrilled to share that our manuscript, titled "Health Technology Assessment of Cardiopulmonary Bypass Circuit with and without Phosphorylcholine Coating: A Retrospective Study on Safety and Efficiency in Cardiac Surgery," has been accepted for publication in the Life Journal! -impact factor of 3.2 (2023) and a 5-year impact factor of 3.1 (2023), citescore 4.3; Life Journal is ranked in the top quartile (Q1) by the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This recognition underscores the importance and quality of our research. Our study provides critical insights into the safety and efficiency of phosphorylcholine-coated cardiopulmonary bypass circuits, potentially influencing future practices in cardiac surgery. I am deeply grateful to my co-authors, the research team, and all our collaborators for their hard work and dedication. We eagerly anticipate sharing our findings with the wider medical and scientific community. Findings of newly published research demonstrate the safety and efficacy of Power Plate? for elderly patients immediately following open heart surgery. Power Plate delivered improvements in physical function, skeletal muscle mass, and muscle weakness that were greater than traditional forms of post -operative cardiovascular rehabilitation. These findings demonstrate the clear value of Power Plate for improving outcomes and post-operative standard of care. They also affirm and reiterate the safety and efficacy of Power Plate that has been documented by hundreds of clinical studies independently published over the past 20 years. https://lnkd.in/gXryQaMa

Intraoperative monitoring during surgery is crucial for ensuring patient safety and optimizing surgical outcomes. By continuously monitoring vital signs, nerve and muscle function, and brain activity, surgeons can promptly detect any potential complications and adjust their approach accordingly. This real-time feedback allows for immediate intervention, minimizing the risk of nerve damage, paralysis, or other adverse events. Ultimately, intraoperative monitoring enhances surgical precision and patient well-being, making it an indispensable tool in modern healthcare practices.?For more information on intraoperative monitoring, connect with Dr. Resnick today! https://lnkd.in/eXS2udnz #FunctionalNeurology #MobileDiagnosticServices #LongIsland #NY #NewYork #TriStateArea #Diagnostics #Electrodiagnostic #Testing #IntraoperativeMonitoring #IOM

Endoscopic vs Tubular Discectomy: The Ultimate Debate! ?We kicked off the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) annual meeting yesterday with the pleasure of watching Mark Mahan, MD, debate Kevin Foley, MD, at the Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery: Comprehensive Contemporary Approaches and Techniques session, and the verdict is in: outcome data triumphs, showing that endoscopic spine approaches reduce risks* and improve patient outcomes* when compared to tubular approaches. “It’s not just a smaller tube; endoscopic spine is a new level of surgical advancement,” said Dr. Mahan. *Hasan S, et al, J Spine Surg. 2019;5(Suppl 1):S41-S56. Despite the success and adoption of TKA, between 10-20 percent of patients experience persistent postoperative pain more than three months after surgery. In a double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled trial, patients experiencing moderate-to-severe postoperative pain following knee replacement were treated with #SprintPNS and evaluated the impact of 60-day PNS use. Read the study in International Neuromodulation Society’s Neuromodulation Journal: https://lnkd.in/gyvpx8Zn Congratulations to all authors, including our expert consultants, Dr. David M. Did you know? Acute compartment syndrome can complicate transradial cardiac catheterisation. A recent case series published in Springer Nature Group highlights two patients: a 75-year-old woman and an 80-year-old man, both developing this rare condition post-procedure. The woman recovered fully after emergency surgery, but tragically, the man did not survive. These real-life cases are extremely complex with high risks involved in cardiac procedures. #Cardiology #MedicalResearch #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation #CompartmentSyndrome #ACS #SentinelpH ?
