?????????????? ?????????? ???????? + ???????????? Linking the arts to health benefits makes it easier to understand the topic as something everyone should have access to. Doctors are taking seriously the concrete and surprising physical health benefits, so much so that they are prescribing arts experiences. This approach reinforces the idea that lack of funding for the arts in a community amounts to neglect, which can lead to negative health outcomes. Topos Partnership shares research on how to talk about arts + health to build public understanding and support. An easy read with great comms info, plus a short video of field interviews shows the impact of new framing! https://lnkd.in/gd9ftyYf

The Jameel Arts & Health Lab is working with the World Health Organization to create a series of guides showing how interventions at the intersection of arts and health can support key areas of concern to decision-makers! They’ve just released a guide on Arts, Mental Health, and Forced Displacement. Check it out to learn about how the arts can improve the mental well-being of people who have been forced to leave their homes. Very encouraging to see a preventative approach to urban health take center stage in the Chief Medical Officer’s annual report which has been published today. Christopher Whitty describes many of the issues that cause significant ill-health and costs to our healthcare system such as housing density, pollution, access to good food and inequalities. ?? ?? ?? ?? These major health issues are the result of complex upstream decision-making that take place outside of the Department of Health and Social Care. We mapped these (many, messy) systems (see link in the comments), identifying 50 areas of potential intervention. This is where prioritising health will really make a difference – in decision-making far upstream.? ? We’re in the process of testing and evaluating seven of those interventions. Check our website for the latest briefings, evidence and tools. Daniel Black Geoff Bates Pablo Newberry
