Today, #Essity launches a new report in the UK highlighting the scale of period inequity that continues to burden our communities - alongside In Kind Direct, Irise International and several other charities and education institutes. ?? Golden Grant Makers' learning report out now! ?? In Autumn 2023, we launched our second resident-led panel for older people, the Golden Grant Makers. Building on the success and learnings from our first panel in 2022-2023, we adopted a participatory approach to ensure the programme truly reflected the needs of our older residents. ??Consultation: We engaged with older residents and organisations dedicated to older people’s support and wellbeing to shape the model and identify funding priorities. ??Recruitment: We invited older residents to join the panel, ensuring their voices directly influenced the grant-making process. ?? The Panel’s Role: The panel was tasked with transforming community feedback into actionable grant opportunities. They reviewed applications and awarded funding to projects that best addressed the needs of older residents in Islington. ?? Total Fund: ￡120,000, including ￡37,750 from the Mercers’ Company. Fortunately we see today highly intelligent #business people and #entrepreneurs acknowledging the value of #parenthood. It’s not only a “tired mummy” issue anymore. Raising children is crucial for society, as we are nurturing and educating the generation of the future. What we do during those seemingly “unproductive times” will determine the citizens and #leadership of tomorrow. Raising children is simply the most important #enterprise we can dedicate ourselves to. The Hargreaves Foundation “Transforming young lives through sport and education” The Foundation’s objectives are underpinned by the desire to give those under the age of 18, and living with a mental health condition, disability, or growing up in poverty, the opportunity to fulfil their potential whilst improving wellbeing, self-esteem and independence. The Foundation can fund clearly defined projects, initiatives or the purchase of specific items that support one or more of the following: Enables individuals to experience the mental and physical health benefits of participatory sport Ensures participatory sport is accessible Provides sporting or educational activities that foster life skills Aims to improve academic engagement and attainment Encourages the development of skills and personal attributes to aid future employability It is the intention of the Trustees to consider a targeted approach to funding and seek out opportunities which provide scope to 'materially change the life of an individual'. These settlement houses aimed to improve the lives of immigrants and the poor by providing education, healthcare, and social services. 2. **Charity Organization Societies (Late 19th Century)**: These societies, which began in the 1870s and 1880s in the United States and the United Kingdom, sought to organize and coordinate charitable efforts. They laid the groundwork for professional casework. 3. **Mary Richmond and Casework (Early 20th Century)**: Mary Ellen Richmond's book "Social Diagnosis" (1917) was one of the first texts to outline a systematic approach to social casework, a cornerstone of modern social work practice. 4. **Formal Education and Training (Early 20th Century)**: The establishment of formal social work education programs was a crucial step in professionalizing the field. Recommendations include: ??Putting equity at the heart of all evaluation stages ??Building strong community partnerships ??Valuing diverse knowledge ??Promoting continuous learning and advocating for change ? The study imagines a future where evaluation serves as a tool for social justice, empowerment and accountability, supporting the communities most affected by oppression and marginalisation. ? It calls on evaluators, funders, and commissioners to take action towards cultivating a fairer, more inclusive, and enriching field of evaluation for all communities involved, like gardeners tending to a flourishing and equitable evaluation ecosystem. ?
