While they are all additives (which begin with the letter D), their functions are distinctively different. They all work to protect the oil from various types of contaminants. l?Defoamants Defoamants reduce foam in lubricants by adsorbing on bubbles to lower surface tension, promoting bubble collapse. Low surface tension defoamants target surface foam, while others stabilize inner foam. l?Dispersants Dispersants suspend contaminants and insoluble particles, preventing agglomeration and maintaining viscosity.
