A new development in Chiswick House with more capacity for community and educational activities.
We've received the green light for our exciting new community and creative campus, Cedar Yards! We are delighted that planning permission has been granted for our new creative and community campus, Cedar Yards. By re-working unused ‘back of house’ areas at Chiswick House, we are creating a space that will boost cultural and creative activity in the local area, create more public green space, and allow us to expand our valuable learning and community work, which is currently running at capacity. Our planned transformation will include a new fruit garden, developed with local people to tell the story of our changing climate, while the introduction of affordable workspaces for artists will foster a local creative economy and generate much needed new income for the Trust. The new carbon-neutral indoor learning space, meanwhile, will allow us to carry out horticultural and creative learning activities for over 7000 participants a year. Generous support from a range of funders has enabled us to reach this pivotal moment, including London Borough of Hounslow, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Linbury Trust, the Foyle Foundation and the Architectural Heritage Fund. It is exciting to be moving forward on this important project.

Public toilets are the unsung heroes of our public spaces. Unlike other pieces of social infrastructure such as libraries, community hubs or kindergartens, there are no legislative requirements, benchmarks or guidelines to provide accessible public toilets outside of buildings. Public toilets are critical pieces of social infrastructure that contribute to people's enjoyment of parks, reserves, streets and neighbourhoods. They are also important beacons of safety, inclusion and participation in our built environments. That's why we are so passionate about planning for public toilets. What does this look like in practice? Check out our latest Draft Public Toilet Strategy that we've developed in collaboration with Indigo Shire Council and diverse voices from across the Shire. https://lnkd.in/gWG9gzhj

Schools (nearly) out for summer! As schools approach the end of term, we are getting ready for a refit project at a Midlands primary school. We have a lot of experience in education projects and we find there are some key differences to much of our other work. ?? Onsite work needs planning around term dates which is challenging for bigger projects that need several weeks on site. We have to maximise the time over summer break. ?? The school senior team are critical to the success of a project, but they don't have property background so we always need to think how best to communicate what we are doing, so they can keep parents and pupils informed. ?? You never quite know what you will find - we once uncovered a air raid shelter under the playground of a Black Country school! As with all projects detailed preparation before the on-site work is key. If you need advice on an education project, please get in touch. #BuildingConsultancy #Education

Good to see that this scheme has now secured planning permission. Anderson Acoustics were commissioned by Oundle School in 2022 to undertake an environmental noise survey and then in 2024 a noise impact assessment including advice on noise mitigation measures required to comply with the local planning requirements. We assessed the impact from existing environmental noise levels on the building itself, and set out recommended limits to externally mounted plant items so that a detailed noise assessment of external plant can be undertaken once the selections are made. The results of the noise levels measured on site, were used to calibrate an environmental 3D model of the site to predict fa?ade noise levels at the proposed building elevations. Looking forward to seeing the scheme take shape. #planningapplication #planningapproval #educationestates #schools #noiseimpactassessment #acousticconsultancy

How often do you think about how much shade kids get at their schools? ?? Last year, my 8 year old told me that there were days when most of the kids were crowded around the few trees that were available in their 'zone' for recess. It's a big school—over 1000 kids. There are definitely not enough trees for everyone. But as global temperatures get hotter, school grounds may be an essential part of a city's climate strategy. "Often what we see at outdoor play places, where asphalt was thought to be the safest surface in the 1980s, is a little heat island within a larger heat island." School yards make up a large percentage of publicly owned land in our cities. Sometimes, they are also the closest thing to a park or green space some neighbourhoods have. Turning them into green, play-centred climate-ready spaces may be a way to ensure all kids have access to nature—and shade—every day. This is something Evergreen Canada is doing: helping cities build better climate-ready spaces. One of our pilot projects was transforming a school ground just like this in Milton, ON. Yesterday 30.01.25, we had an incredibly inspiring morning at our Higher Newham Farm residential development that perfectly demonstrates our commitment to nurturing future talent in construction! We were thrilled to welcome 4 neurodivergent students from Year 7 at #RichardLanderSchool, right here in the local community where we're building. The purpose of this visit was clear: to open their eyes to the incredible diversity of trades and career opportunities within the construction sector. Our site manager Martin Bentley was absolutely phenomenal. He transformed a group of initially shy students into confident, enthusiastic learners. The transformation was remarkable - they arrived quietly and left buzzing with excitement, with one student even expressing hope of working with Martin in the future! This isn't just a site visit - it's about creating a pipeline of future talent for Cornwall's construction industry. By engaging with local schools like #RichardLanderSchool, we're not just building homes; we're building futures. We're committed to further initiatives and site visits across different year groups, helping students see first-hand the exciting developments happening right in their own residential area. Our approach is simple: inspire, educate, and support. By showcasing the breadth of opportunities in construction, we hope to attract diverse, talented individuals who will shape the future of our industry. Stay tuned for more updates on our community engagement efforts! Thank you to Ductu Portal for working with myself in organising and engaging schools within the vicinity to visit the world of construction! #ConstructionCareers #YouthEmpowerment #LocalCommunity #Cornwall #SocialValue Vistry Group | Places for People | Ductu Portal Peter Sadler Martin Bentley Justin Penhallurick (ICIOB) Aisha O'Connor Liza Scholefield Nikki Grenfell Emma Reid

? Why Kingswood residentials are ESSENTIAL At Kingswood, we believe that school residentials provide more than just a break from the classroom. They offer invaluable experiences that foster personal growth, independence and lifelong skills. This is echoed by Ewa, a headteacher from Rochester, who shared, "students often push themselves out of their comfort zones, building confidence and a sense of accomplishment... These experiences are memorable and impactful, contributing to their growth in ways that benefit both their academic and personal lives." Through residentials students gain: ? Practical life skills ? Teamwork and bonding ? Self discovery Plus more!
