There's been a lot of discussion around the "Flywheel" effect of ecosystems and partnerships, but I haven't actually seen a visual on this to illustrate what it would look like. Here's a visual I put together anchored around the idea of: 1. In the prospect phase, you want to start by giving value. This build trust and gives the partner confidence to move forward with you. 2. In the partner market fit phase, you want to validate as quickly as possible that the partnership will be successful, and this is driven by customer wins together. 3. In the strategic phase, you want to accelerate that partnership with focus and proper resource allocation. How do you inspire your partners and your ecosystem? With your USP and your Value Prop, right? Sort of, you definitely need a pitch deck that is differentiated and covers the basics of the top hits - easy onboarding, fast time to value, lucrative ROI, etc. But what is inspiring about that? If you want your ecosystem orchestration strategy to thrive and to make amazing music with your partners, you need to inspire them. Here are some tips: - Arouse emotion - get out of your head and lead with your heart. What makes people, partners, and ecosystems sing is when there is something shared that everyone really cares about beyond money. - Build community - great ecosystems are also great communities. It’s not enough to build relationships between you and the partners, you need to inspire partners to collaborate and care about and for each other. - Rally around your shared, end customer. If you can show partners and ecosystems how we win when our joint customers wins, that is inspiring. And if the ecosystem story inspires the end customer too, that is magic ?? Be a bridge. This was the most impactful P.A.M. advice I ever received. Simple, effectual, holistic. Things I often hear.... "Partners aren’t doing anything, they suck..." Thing's that happen next....Take customers direct, stop investing in co-marketing and enablement, pull back deal support from partners. Two years later... less pipeline, lower close rate, less profit, higher churn and less innovation. Also. Things I rarely hear...."We're not working well with Partners, why do we suck?" Listen to your partner community, improve programs, operations, enablement, systems and support... Two years later... more pipeline, higher close rate, more profit, negative churn, and more innovation. Look inwards before looking outwards when facing growth challenges with partners. It's all in the mindset we have, and the choices we make. People often think short term, Partners are a long game... act accordingly. See you in two years.

Ravi is spot on. Successful and impactful Partnerships aren’t built in a day just like Rome. Most of us know and understand that there’s a lot of pressure on sales reps to deliver and drive revenue. The channel can be a force mulptier if you spend time, energy, and effort developing relationships/partnerships. I’ve worked and do work with amazing people and sales professionals that have a wonderful reputation in the channel (yes, I’m aware that I’m lucky). It’s not rocket science but every now and again I have to remind people that partnerships are a two way street. In a world where partners are bombarded by hundreds if not thousands of vendors wanting their time, my advice to vendor reps is to bring value to the partners and don’t come with your hands out. We are all in the business to help clients solve their pressing challenges that result to positive business outcomes and we do it better and faster through positive business relationships/partnerships.
