Arm speed is huge in bowling. @pacelablimited @pitchwolf.ai has identified the importance of arm speed to ball speed How are you training it and do you know if it’s improving and improving ball velocity? Or are you just hoping it all comes together in the end? The more Peaks (peak form) you hit, the more opportunities to get things right at key times. You have to continually test! “There is a difference between CALENDAR BASED PEAKING & RESPONSE BASED PEAKING” Dr Bondarchuk Don’t get to 1 week from the season and realise you’re in the same physical condition as 12 months ago. This happens too often and is called NEUTRAL TRANSFER. Pointless and madness!! The key to strength, specific strength, power and speed work is providing enough neural drive to allow a high frequency of practice without muscular fatigue. Fast bowling is neurally driven. It will take 30+ exposures of 1 programme/sessions template (PDSF) for it to transfer. So, the more programmes /sessions you use, the longer it will take to transfer and the fewer opportunities to see if it works!! Using @outputsports to measure bar speed and arm speed, @pocketradar for ball speed and @theecode_dev for drop off % and @nextiles_hq or @drivelinepulse for arm speed and stress PaceLab believes in exposing bowlers to the same stimulus consistently. In camps and bespoke programming the exercises are isolated and focused. It’s not a circus show or entertainment event. Get good at the things that help you!! So a form of bowling is done every day, but bowing itself is only done 3 times in a 5 day cycle. “ “BOWLING WITHOUT BOWLING” When performing this type of high-level programming, guessing is not an option. You have to follow the data. Microdosing ensures all aspects of fast bowling performance are stimulated appropriately I am not sure why every fast bowling programme is not based on The PaceLab Training System but the first international board, franchise or cricket board to embrace it will dominate the game. I cant emphasise that enough. There’s nothing else like it Trust the process #pacelabprinciple #Bondarchuk #pacelabtrainingsystem #pdsf #fastbowling

The intensities of bowling Sprinters & coaches know the importance of varying intensity throughout the microcycle (wk) Understanding & managing Frequency and intensity is they key to coaching quicks There are 3 levels of bowling intensities, 4 including TEMPO Bowling (70% intensity) that should be used in the long term planning of fast bowlers 1 100% match day intensity 2 110% match day intensity 3 80-90% match day intensity 4. Tempo recovery Do as much as you can without creating too much fatigue to allow you to repeat frequently This is the basic principle of improving fast bowling Fast bowling is a motor skill. You must recruit a lot of muscle fibers, make them fire at a fast rate, & make them work together. Then all the muscles involved must continue to work in a coordinated matter. Frequency, not quantity, is the most important factor in motor learning. By bowling frequently you’ll optimize technique & coordination (intramuscular and intermuscular). Bowling is a high neural stressor + careful monitoring and planning is needed to maintain the frequency. Your CNS can only tolerate 1-2 sessions per week above 90%. This is why you must autoregulate your bowling velocities and have a key purpose with key drop off % in mind before every session. It’s better to bowl 12 balls twice per day than 24 all at once. This is something that cricket, & to be fair most sports fail to understand & respect. When preparing for exams we tell our kids to do small chunks of revision. It’s the same brain we use for sport!! The key point to remember is, it’s about the total weekly bowling volume not daily volume. Synaptic facilitation that’s what we are after However at no stage am I recommending kids bowl flat out everyday which is a practice that occurs in certain parts of the world. My recommendation is they bowl a small volume of differing intensity frequently for a small phase Like I said last week most bowlers are not OVERCOOKED , they are UNDERCOOKED in their preparation phases when they are younger. Build up the chronic loads carefully with small volume & varying intensities. Also be mindful of stages of maturation #pacelab #areg

Attractors in Fast Bowling Why, despite the vast sea of possibilities for ways to move—the “abundant degrees of freedom” that Nikolai Bernstein described—do fast bowlers often display similar movement patterns? Why do they tend to have similar skill patterns (yet, crucially, not identical) techniques when delivering the ball? Although there is increasing focus on the role of variability in skilful movement, this does not diminish the existence of considerable invariance—consistent elements that are the same across deliveries by the same bowler and shared among different bowlers. Even though theoretically, there are endless movement solutions available for executing a bowling action, certain patterns are inherently more stable and resistant to disturbances, while others are unstable and difficult to sustain. Why do these attractors in bowling coordination exist? For fast bowlers, attractors serve several critical functions. First, they create resistance to perturbations in the highly dynamic environment of bowling. Imagine a bowler who lands awkwardly on the crease due to an uneven surface. Although this might initially disrupt their desired movement pattern, the stable attractor patterns inherent in their action will pull them back into a familiar and efficient bowling motion. Second, these attractors act as a safeguard against injury and help manage the extreme time pressures inherent in fast bowling. When a bowler plants their front foot as the extend forward from the back foot contact, tendons and muscles in the ankle send feedback signals to the brain regarding the surface condition. However, the transmission of these sensory signals is relatively slow, meaning there isn’t enough time for them to be processed and used to coordinate subsequent leg movements in the delivery stride. Instead, pre-existing stable attractors automatically guide the movement of the foot and leg, helping maintain balance and reducing injury risk. This is called pre-tension. Understanding these attractors in fast bowling is essential for optimising performance and technique development. Throughout the PaceLab Foundation course, we will explore the dominant attractors that are commonly observed among elite bowlers and how they can be harnessed to enhance bowling effectiveness and resilience. Bondarchuk’s Complex Method is a game-changer in fast bowling training. Unlike traditional periodisation, this approach maintains consistent exercise selection, volume, and intensity throughout the training cycle, leading to faster sport form attainment. This method enables bowlers to peak in all areas simultaneously, enhancing technical skills, strength, speed, and competition performance. The ratio of exercise classifications varies based on the bowler's skill level. Less experienced bowlers focus more on preparatory exercises, while elite bowlers prioritize developmental and competitive exercises. Despite being rooted in track and field, adapting Bondarchuk’s system to fast bowling presents challenges due to cricket's extended season and injury risks. However, careful programming and workload management can help mitigate these challenges. Key to fast bowling development is minimal intrasession variability. By implementing phases focusing on underloaded or overloaded bowling sessions, bowlers can enhance speed, consistency, and endurance over time. Bondarchuk’s method offers valuable insights for optimizing training effects and performance in fast bowling. #bondarchuk #pacelab #fastbowling #periodisation
