?? What can historical letters teach us about past societies? Exploring personal letters from the 19th century, Professor Cecilia Morgan from the University of Toronto has delved into the lives of British settlers in Canada to uncover both the enduring and challenging aspects of family dynamics. Her research, using the Hamilton family’s correspondence, reveals how?strengths, talents, and resilience?were vital in shaping not only the lives of individual family members but also broader societal networks. This “archival journey” showcases the power of relationships, often marked by both care and conflict, to form the foundation of early communities. ???Professor Morgan finds that letters between family members reveal rich emotions, life challenges, and even personal frustrations. Through these exchanges, family members displayed their unique strengths and talents, from navigating social and political networks to adapting to financial insecurity. This serves as a reminder of the importance of?acknowledging personal strengths within family bonds as key elements of resilience. ?? “My research tells us about the importance of family and their contributions to creating settler society in the 19th century,” says Professor Morgan. “In childrearing, old age, sickness, and death, for example, we shouldn’t romanticize such relationships or underestimate the toll that ‘care work’ can take on family members.” ?? Rola's Lingering Thought: If history tends to repeat itself, are we truly progressing as a society, or are we rediscovering the same truths in new forms? What insights might our historical letters hold for future generations on the bonds, values, and strengths that shape us? Hi, I am starting a new social media page, movement and group dedicated to improving social issues in America. It is called "The New American Dream". A little about me and the page: "Hello, my name is Anna. I go by Anna Awe. I am an activist and artist. I've written six movies, over 200 songs, and countless poems and works of fiction. I started this page because I feel that there are certain major issues affecting America that are not being addressed enough by mass media or current leadership. These include economics/social mobility, community/isolation, mental health, job opportunities, and a lack of social cohesion. Many of us live in isolation with broken dreams simply trying to make ends meet. Having a family and a safe home has gotten too expensive for many. It doesn't have to be this way. Public awareness, open conversation, action steps and policy changes could make it so that we live in a more connected and loving society, where everyone can make their dreams come true. This is the start of the conversation. Where it leads I do not know, but someone has to get the ball rolling." Join here or through my link in bio: https://lnkd.in/gpxpFmCq

I have no desire to destroy the nation. I don't have that level of bitterness and I do not deal with contrived anger. I do not deal with political performance of anger for the audience. I am not on a mission to sink Britain for the sake of people that I have never met, for an experience that has never been my own. There may be others that have a greater following than me, and are more influential because they turn up everywhere, try to manipulate the emotions of both black and white Briton's in order to climb the career ladder on the backs of black people's suffering but they are not right. Often, these careerists are acknowledged as the leadership of black Briton's by white Briton's in leadership positions. They are then given the chance to put forward arguments on the behalf of black Briton's but they are trying to dupe people into accepting irrational, unjust and unreasonable arguments, as if there are no black Briton's with a reasonable and logical mind. As if there are no black Briton's that believe in the rule of law and property rights. These people work hard to style black Briton's as some lawless, anarchist, jungle bunnies. They are the enemy of black Briton and they are people that were not part of black communities in places like Lambeth where riots erupted in the 80's. They are outsiders who have forced their way to the front by their proximity to a minority of left-wing white Briton's who are often frustratingly patronising and condescending towards black Briton's. They are afraid to have straightforward discussions, and open to being manipulated by emotional led grievance politics. As a black Briton with a philosophical mind rooted in western philosophy, who acknowledges himself as firmly in the western tradition and conversation and acknowledges the elevated level of thinking that has been part of the collected dialogues of western philosophy, I don't think there is anything to be achieved in leaning on your emotions and styling yourself as blood thirsty with a drive and desire to tear down the whole edifice of British and western civilisation for something that ended almost 200 years ago. If it happened in your lifetime then it might be just to argue on reparations but if you are removed by 10 generations, were not there, are now living in the centre of the empire and do not have a living relative or parent or even grandparent that was a slave then you are just a trickster. I don't think in some spook way that our ancestors are watching over us hoping that we avenge them, they are turned to dust. That type of thinking does not fit into the philosophical tradition that I exists within. There is only one strong argument that can be put forward on the behalf of black Briton's that are locked in these former plantation and slave economies and it is further integration. It is all Briton's coming together to chart a way forward in a world that is much different from the era of transatlantic slavery.

Let America Be America Again Langston Hughes 1901 – 1967 Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (America never was America to me.) Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. (It never was America to me.) O, let my land be a land where Liberty Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath, But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe. (There’s never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”) Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark? And who are you that draws your veil across the stars? I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart, I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars. I am the red man driven from the land, I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek— And finding only the same old stupid plan Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak. I am the young man, full of strength and hope, Tangled in that ancient endless chain Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land! Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need! Of work the men! Of take the pay! Of owning everything for one’s own greed! I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil. I am the worker sold to the machine. I am the Negro, servant to you all. I am the people, humble, hungry, mean— Hungry yet today despite the dream. Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers! I am the man who never got ahead, The poorest worker bartered through the years. Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream In the Old World while still a serf of kings, Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true, That even yet its mighty daring sings In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned That’s made America the land it has become. O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home— For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore, And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came To build a “homeland of the free.” The free? Who said the free? Not me? Surely not me? The millions on relief today? The millions shot down when we strike? The millions who have nothing for our pay? For all the dreams we’ve dreamed And all the songs we’ve sung And all the hopes we’ve held And all the flags we’ve hung, The millions who have nothing for our pay— Except the dream that’s almost dead today. O, let America be America again— The land that never has been yet— And yet must be—the land where every man is free. The land that’s mine—the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME— Who made America, Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain, Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain, Must bring back our mighty dream again. It is an interesting piece on a book I have not read re trying to account for the 'a-priori' the 'ready to hand' as a political problem of recognition in a historical key. The review touches on the French Huguenot traditions and its cross hybrids with the US federalists, and todays Libertarians, and how that traction is markedly different for explaining the constraints of social decay. Toward the end, 'blue collar' President Joe Biden policies are analysed-how the accumulation of privilege hallows out, unfair social structures, reducing the awareness for what greets the emergence and transitions of a young sovereign sense of self allegiance. In looking back at Ireland, its pretty overt which tradition won over, our hearts and minds from at least the 19th Century, using 'particular takes on recognition rooted in, and depend upon, the particularities of national cultures'-I will operate on the assumption that the national particularities emerging in the course of a nation’s historical development are what cause the idea of recognition to take on a specific tone or colouring depending on the country under discussion’ (2020: 5). "It is one thing to distinguish between various types of social disrespect and develop grounds for their normative critique. It is, however, quite another thing to explain the social mechanisms by which such forms of disrespect arise and become mental habits." Honneth 2023 These issues raise very significant issues for Ireland re the bundles of habits that became reinforcing and acquisitive, from the 19th up to the 21st Century-in the granting and receiving of recognition. https://lnkd.in/eikWZHUX

In the 1970s, my family arrived in America fueled by dreams and driven by determination. My father, a skilled CPA from the Philippines, embarked on a bold business adventure with just $70, a family to support, and the American Dream in his heart. Fast forward to 2024, and I'm grappling with a painful realization—the American Dream that brought us here seems to have vanished. In this video, I explore the stark realities of today’s America, from the fading prospects of homeownership to eroding personal freedoms and the diminishing hope for our children's future. Join me as I outline the 6 critical reasons why I believe the American Dream is no longer achievable for most. There Is a well known proverb ' When in Rome do as the Romans' . However, this proverb was thrown out the window in the UK by government policies . People of different races move over to the UK either for better opportunities or escaping from thier home country bad states and governance. However instead of appreciate the system of the UK that has afforded them these positives rather they bring on board thier cultures they left behind with all the failures that made them left it ; I don't consider this wisdom. Ignoring the fact and reality the land of UK has it dwellers with deep seated rich history and heritage and these immigrants want them to lose that . Meaning by doing this the immigrants with this ideology of super imposition are working towards wiping out the Caucasian British nationals and this is unjust. It is GODs given right of every race to live and keep its uniqueness in this one earth. This is why the proverb ' when IN Rome do as the Romans do ' . However if you cannot do then get out of Rome or stay put and let Rome get on . Let us be honest in our hearts most of us would like our races with the rich cultures to endure . Then why should we think the UK nationals should not have same . Most people that have this ideology of wanting to erode and make extinct the UK rich heritage cite colonialism as thier reasons, but this is very wrong because 2 wrongs cannot make a right and the generation of UK nationals now were not the colonial masters and should not be held to pay for the sins of their father's. This is even set by THE LORD IN THE BIBLE WHEN HE SAID HE WILL NOT PUNISH THE CHILDREN FOR THE SINS OF THEIR FATHERS and rightly so because the father is his one person as the child. As Chair of the North - Tor customer care group of the housing provider Places for People . We have the right model for community cohesion which the government should adopt. We have begun to set up youth centers, leisure centers and community centers for all our tenants and those around to use as one people what ever thier race or believes . These places are one under one umbrella and one identity to bring our communities together to mix , interact, learn , receive assistances even shop in same shops This will reverse this mistaken practice of different races in a community having their different centers , leaning and youth centers. As this only Foster myopism, narrow mindedness, intolerance and segregation fuelling hate and this type of evil carnage committed in South port.

#Worklife: Good morning! Happy 4th of July to those in the U.S. A day of Independence. “When the well is dry, we know the worth of water.” Benjamin Franklin, a man of many talents and accomplishments, his was one of the signatures on the Declaration of Independence. That alone took amazing courage. The quote is simply one to illustrate value. When a thing has value, we cherish it, we hold it in high esteem…….maybe. On this 4th, we should consider the values of the workplace, especially the modern space. Most of us do not have to earn a living in dark, dirty places. With many able to do their work never leaving their dwellings, we have freedoms those who lived 250 years ago could not dream of. Enjoy the 4th! We have freedoms most do not own. Enjoy too the freedom to live and work where you want. Freedom, like that water well, is an easy thing to take for granted until the well goes dry. Should be a long holiday weekend for many! Think about those men who signed that document. If things hadn’t worked out, there would have been a noose waiting for each and every one of thrm. Thank you for reading. (these are my words and my opinions only.) #freedoms #cherish #history.

Will America remain the founder of the world order? What Makes America Great and the Meanings of Life Behind It People who believe in justice for all are the legacy of our country. America is great because Americans generate a worldview that continues to influence the world. However, today’s worldview requires revision and reconsideration of its fundamental principles. To maintain equal rights for all without compromising anyone’s benefits, we need to redefine the meaning and value of life. Justice should be the unshakable foundation of life, but today we see that declarations often don’t match executions. The world is experiencing a semantic conflict where what is right or wrong is measured by profit, not justice. True justice can only be established with a clear understanding of the true meanings of human life. Currently, no country’s codex defines the meaning of life. Without this definition, how can we provide true justice? Do we value human life or merely the functions we call rights and responsibilities? Thе answers will help us steer onto the right course.
