My journey in healthcare and safety has been a winding path, filled with unexpected twists and turns. I started out as a nurse, driven by a passion to care for others and make a difference in their lives. But as I worked on the front lines of healthcare, I realized that prevention was just as important as treatment. I became obsessed with the idea of preventing harm before it even happened. That's when I made the leap into safety, completing an internship that opened my eyes to the world of risk management and mitigation. It was like a whole new language, but I was determined to learn it. From there, I transitioned into a role as a hygiene supervisor, where I got to put my new skills to the test in a food manufacturing setting. As I continued to grow and learn, I realized that food safety was where my heart was. I pursued certifications and eventually became a food safety supervisor. And now, as an internal auditor in training , I get to use my nursing background, safety expertise, and food safety knowledge to ensure that our facilities are the safest they can be. What are your long term career goals ?? #CareerDevelopment #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalGrowth #SelfReflection

?? Lifelong Learning: A Journey of Continuous Growth ?? Lifelong learning is essential, and as Steve Jobs famously advised, we should 'stay hungry, stay foolish.' Inspired by this philosophy, I decided to expand my skills during my spare time. I recently enrolled in a government-organized vocational training program, which offers a variety of courses for free. Among the many options, I chose a baking course. Over the course of a month, using my weekends, I learned to make chiffon cakes, cookies, fruit puddings, and bread. I successfully passed the vocational skills exam and earned a certificate in basic baking. While I don't plan to switch careers to become a professional baker, mastering this skill has enriched my life immensely. Now, I can create delightful pastries for my family, and seeing their joy as they savor the treats I've made brings me great satisfaction. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of continuous learning—not just for career advancement but for personal enrichment and bringing joy to those around us. What new skills are you thinking of exploring? Let's inspire each other to keep learning and growing! ???? #LifelongLearning #PersonalDevelopment #Baking #SkillBuilding

“Should I/my child go to culinary school and become a chef?” Yes. And absolutely not. This industry requires a specific mindset, a very strange dichotomy of arrogance and humility. Willingness to perform service, but actualized and aware enough to control the parameters of that service. Most people won’t know those things about themselves until they try, and for many, it’s an obvious and immediate exit (or a prolonged misery). Culinary school is a great mechanism for broad exposure to methods, and understanding the basic structure of a kitchen. Most schools have come a long way in promoting professional scenarios, teaching restaurant service in brief “student kitchen” events, and drilling down on sanitation and organization. It can often be short on rote repetition, which is what most of our time in a kitchen in spent doing. But what culinary school actually is, is a networking tool. It’s a connection to instructors with lengthy careers and professional relationships. It’s externships at reputable restaurants (hopefully). In turn, this requires that the student have (or quickly learn) communication and self-advocacy. If you can’t speak to your skills or your needs, you will get very little out of these opportunities, and consequently, very little out of culinary school. If you aren’t comfortable establishing relationships and following up on them to obtain employment or resources, you’ll be neglecting arguably the most valuable part of culinary programs. Combined with the cost of many schools, the choice can be a difficult one - if the cost of the program puts you in debt, it’s almost certainly the incorrect choice. Entry level pay, even for graduates, is insufficient to handle costly loan payments. If you’re a parent looking to shove a baby bird from the nest, be honest about their nature and the likelihood of their success; it is not an industry for the meek or the unmotivated. Some people blossom in the industry; many wilt. If you’re an adult looking for a new career, such as private catering, considering trying part time employment with an established caterer to understand the industry better. There are aspects to it that cannot be taught in a class, and it helps to know things about yourself in moments of pressure, impossible adversity, and situations that may genuinely have no solution, before committing to the industry. Spend a year, and if you love it, perhaps enroll then. If you’re someone who “loves to cook”, and you’re a software engineer or a doctor or lawyer or something that pays your bills, do us all a favor and just stay in that higher earning bracket, download Gronda, and keep your ability to pay your mortgage. Short story: if you’re young (relatively) and you have a passion for the world and you can avoid crippling debt, get your culinary school on and reinvent the industry. If not, maybe just get a job for a bit and see how it feels.
