?? Did You Know? Half of Home Heating Fires Happen in Winter! ?? Winter has officially arrived! While we love cozy nights by the fire, it's essential to know about the higher risk of home heating fires this season. ?? Let's keep our homes safe and warm with these tips provided by Penn National Insurance! ? Keep Your Distance! ??♀? Ensure anything that can burn (furniture, curtains, or even your furry friends!) stays at least 3 feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, and space heaters. ?? Carbon Monoxide is Sneaky! Don't forget to install and test carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month. Your safety is worth it! ?? Chimney Check! Schedule a professional cleaning and inspection of your chimney and vents every year. This small step can make a big difference! ??? Ash Disposal 101: After enjoying your fire, remember to store cooled ashes in a tightly covered metal container outside, at least 10 feet away from your home. Safety first! ?? One Plug at a Time! Avoid overloading your outlets. Plug only one heat-producing appliance (like a space heater) into an outlet to prevent hazards. ?? Smoke Alarms Save Lives! Did you know that working smoke alarms can reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by half? Here's how to ensure your family is safe: ?? Strategic Placement: Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. ?? Interconnected is Best: Consider interconnected smoke alarms. If one goes off, they all sound—keeping your family safer! ?? Monthly Testing: Make it a habit to test all smoke alarms at least once a month. A few minutes can save lives! Stay safe and warm this winter! ?? ?? Follow me for more safety tips, and share this to help keep your friends and family safe, too! Source: NFPA #EmergencyPreparedness #Community #Safety #FirePrevention

?? Winter storms can be tough on your home, so once the weather clears, it’s smart to do a quick check for any issues: 1) Inspect Your Roof – Look for missing shingles, leaks, or ice buildup that could lead to damage. 2) Check Home Appliances – Power outages or surges may affect major systems. Test and reset as needed. 3) Watch Your Attic – Moisture and leaks often show up here first. 4) Protect Your Pipes – Look for cracks or leaks and ensure exposed pipes are insulated. 5) Test Your Fireplace or Chimney – Make sure it’s clear and safe for use. 6) Document Damage & Contact Insurance – If you notice damage, take photos and get in touch with your provider. A little post-storm maintenance can go a long way in keeping your home safe and sound all season long! ? Debby Craggs Team | DebbyCraggs.com "Choose Experience, Get Results"
