I find gponline.com a real finger on the pulse (excuse the pun) for informing health in planning. Todays scary stat is that from a poll of front line providers carried out in the run-up to the general election, "one in 10 GPs expected their practice to close or hand back its contract within a year and 42% expected to leave the profession within five years". This is in the face of increasing demand from an aging population (increased frequency, complexity and cost), and reduced provision due to inflation. So what can planning do? Reach out to the Integrated Care Board early to better understand their challenges, strategic plans and aspirations, and explore solutions through design that don't just address the demand directly attributable to your development, but reinforce and enhance health care. It means you can help better address and support investment in health care. Yes, they are often hard to reach, so double up, and engage with NHS Property is well, as they are increasing their capability to do this, and have started to represent ICB's. Also, engage with the NHS Confederation. Yes they are a charity, but they talk to their local health care providers, and can often give you information across the Primary Care Network that not only improves health care, but addresses some of the underpinning issues that are pushing staff out of the sector (affordable housing, working conditions, inflation, cost of living and service viability). On the flip side, Health Stakeholders please engage. If you don't, its hard to build the rationale and justification for Healthy Urban Design and Investment that would generate the greatest positive health legacy. Planning Officers and Committee Members, please recognise the value of projects that support, enhance and embed health care and healthy urban design. If not, you don't distinguish from projects that are addressing the challenges, from those that are compounding them. Oh, and do catch up with GP-online, it is a real eye opener, and great inspiration for healthy urban design.

Attract new patients to your health center even with a small marketing budget. How? The answer isn't complicated! Community health centers provide crucial healthcare services in their communities, but many would-be patients are unaware that they exist, what services they offer, and who they serve. Even with vast marketing budgets, attracting new people to your services can be challenging! So, where do you start? Here's a budget-friendly strategy for getting the attention of a community: show up. When I was the CEO of a health center, I created a communication plan for outreach in the community. My goal? To do one in-person presentation per week. I talked about our health center, services, and the great conveniences we offered to civic groups like the Lions and Rotary clubs, church leaders, healthcare specialists, school staff, and staff meetings at hotels, grocery stores, and other businesses. ? Follow these simple steps to boost your outreach: ?? Create a slide deck or jot down some talking points. ?? Start calling and getting on the agenda for different types of meetings. ?? End your presentation with a straightforward Call to Action (CTA), such as making an appointment to get established or having their prescriptions moved to the health center's pharmacy.
