Is long-term fire retardant a long-term solution? Or are we trading a short-term fix for a long-term problem? It is worth noting that a longer-lasting retardant is a valuable tool to fill in as a stopgap. There is a reason it has been and continues to be used: it works for short-term defense when there's no other option. It undeniably has saved lives and homes. As we advance, it just needs to be talked about in the context of a part of the solution that segways into the longer-term land management macrocosm.

This week the Captain of the Port opened a window to allow boats other than commercially essential vessels to pass through the Key Bridge Response Safety Zone. The Waterkeeper team was able to collect samples at the majority of our outer tidal Patapsco stations and then made our way towards the Inner Harbor (sample results below). As the Port rebuilds, our ability to collect data will be limited, with most tidal report-outs covering the area north of the Safety Zone. We are elated to be back out for the tidal season and part of the Port that makes #baltimorestrong? ?
