It’s always intriguing to watch New York powerhouses like Weil, Gotshal & Manges make moves on the West Coast. Their recent expansion into the California market, with new offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco, is a significant step.?? ? They even brought on board two seasoned private equity lateral partners from Latham & Watkins to head these new offices, but the question remains: can New York firms truly establish a strong foothold in LA’s unique legal landscape? The record in that regard is spotty, with fierce competition and very different cultural and market dynamics at play, which are easily underestimated.?? ? It will be interesting to see if WG&M can overcome these hurdles and make a lasting impact, or if they’ll struggle to gain a foothold like many before them. Paul Weiss is apparently conducting an experiment in London. The firm is attempting to use its considerable pocketbook to make a dent in the powerhold that Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins have on the private capital market by hiring away a chunk of the top expertise in the City. Announcing BMUL+Z's 2024 Super Lawyers Rising Stars: Michael Seiger - Corporate and Intellectual Property Thomas Zeichman - Business Bankruptcy and Bankruptcy Litigation The Super Lawyers award is extended to less than 5% of Attorneys nationwide, while Rising Stars make up less than 2.5% of young attorneys. Every year, Attorneys are nominated by their peers or identified by their research department, who then screens the pool of candidates by 12 indicators evaluating for experience and excellence. Those are then ranked by their leading professional peers by practice area in a “blue ribbon review” process rating them from a scale of 1 to 5.
