A message to our community of Peacemakers, As we process the election news, we can expect to feel and see heightened anxiety, fear, and tension. Here are some thoughts for practicing compassion: If you are in distress, first take care of yourself. Monitor your body and your emotions. Take breaks. Breathe. Distract yourself with humor. Reach out to your trusted sources of support. Know that you are not alone. Those of you who have capacity, check on your friends and loved ones, especially members of targeted communities. Extend your care and kindness. Offer a listening ear. Help one another in whatever way you can. When you encounter injustice, approach it with courage and compassion. Be authentic and true to yourself. Speak up for what is right. Advocate for the oppressed. Don’t let strong emotions lure you into acting from a place of hate. Fight against injustice without making another person your enemy. Keep a vision of peace and justice in your heart. Align your actions with that vision.

So many of the news people comment that Joe Biden has said things like "Donald Trump is planning on destroying Democracy," and "So now Donald Trump is our target." That supposedly makes the Biden folks villians. He merely took his comment from Trump about the 1st days he would be in power and the release of the 2025 project details as reason to say the comment. As to making Donald Trump the target now, only people who understand the world through guns, retribution, and revenge think of a literal target and cross hairs. Look throughout history, in vitriolic or peaceful times, any time someone is running a race it has been very common to say "so and so is our target now," and no where near does it mean shooting anyone. Anyone in a competitive business understands that saying our competitor is our target means to beat or win but nobody in their right might thinks shoot. I applaud President Biden calling former President Trump and First Lady Dr. Biden calling former First Lady Melania Trump to convey concerns and assure prayers in the hortible tragedy that took place in an assasination attempt of Donald Trump. I was beside myself at news of the event, all politics aside, because any gun violence upsets me. I prayed for Donald Trump to be okay. I prayed that Joe Biden will not suffer a similar event, in spite of Trump's shooter being a registered Republican. Yet all through the last few years, I have never heard a Democratic Candidate for any office say we can always rely on "2nd Amendment Solutions." At the moment I would have to stop to count how many candidates from the Republican side have (and perhaps recently)said those exact words. Donald Trump's closest advisors/associates over the years have invoked violence, overtly or by being subtle in a wink-wink understanding. Listen to Steve Bannon. He speaks about this presidential race being an eradication of anyone not in the Trump or Conservative or Right or MAGA camps. That attacks Democracy. Democracy and Freedom go hand in hand to speak and vote freely as you wish and not suffer violence for doing so. True Liberty means not making everyone act/ live/ work the same or be under that same mindset. Donald Trump wants to get rid of all federal workers (over 50,000 Americans who serve our country through various offices in a sense of duty to all of us in America) and replace these hardworking people with those who will swear allegiance to Donald Trump instead of to our country. That is not Democracy. So Joe Biden was calling it like he sees it; those policies are a threat to Democracy. There is quite a list of mean, threatening/derogatory comments by Donald Trump and many politicians down the line who have supported him. Do any Democrats say the same kinds of things? No. Does any of my opinion mean Donald Trump deserves to be shot? Not at all. This is a tragedy that he was shot yesterday, sadly along with 2 others hurt and one killed. They felt safe. Can anyone feel safe now? Lord, have mercy.
Violence has no place in the political arena. Yesterday, my sister texted me, asking if I was watching the news about former President Trump. I was shocked by the attempted shooting of Donald Trump and the loss of life and injuries that followed. As Americans and people of God we need to rise above division and do whatever we can to reduce tension and the risk of violence in our country. I believe that human life is sacred, and the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. “When we disagree, let us treat each other with dignity. By treating others with dignity, we can ease tensions, solve problems, and signal to everyone that violence is a profound failure. It signifies a failure of our relationships, our culture, and our human spirit” (Tim Shriver). In this spirit, let us commit to doing our best to treat everyone with dignity, even when we hold differing views. Let us all strive to uplift each other and build a more respectful and harmonious nation. Together, we can transform our differences into a powerful force for unity and hope. Let us be the change, fostering peace and understanding in every corner of our society. Lord, make me an instrument of peace!

Yesterday, I attempted to chronicle?the normalization of what would have been unfathomable just a year ago, acts of antisemitism that have become horrifyingly ubiquitous.?The rate at which these instances are increasing?are simply mindboggling. That is?why I wholeheartedly welcome President Biden's powerful post condemning these attacks this morning. The abhorrent celebration of the 10/7 attack, the vandalism targeting Jewish homes, attacks on Jewish faculty at college campuses, the harassment of subway riders and the numerous horrific acts of antisemitism across the world, are all deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gSX9pMne Antisemitism is not just a threat to Jewish Americans; it undermines the very fabric of our democratic values and threatens all of us. President Biden’s words are a crucial reminder that we must stand united against all forms of hate. It is imperative that we take decisive action to combat antisemitism, protect our communities, and uphold the principles of equality and justice. We must remain vigilant and resolute in our efforts to ensure that such acts of hatred are met with zero tolerance. Together, we can create a society where everyone feels safe and respected. I commend President Biden for his leadership and significant commitment to fighting antisemitism and protecting the values that bind us together as a nation.

Shooters in houses of worship. Gangs attacking mass transit commuters in New York. Deadly road and club/bar rage. Youngsters killing youngsters. Antisemitic, racial attacks on campuses and public spaces. Media that feeds on and entertains with violent news clips and programming. Political circles that further divide for advantage. We have long since abandoned our dedication to civil society and become a house divided. We are strangers to one another and to ourselves. The center no longer can hold. And enemies are at the door. So where do we go from here? First, we need to take a long look at ourselves. Do we in what we say and do contribute even in a small way to the discord/negativity around us? Do we look for/bring out the best or the worst in others? How does that reflect our attitude toward ourselves? Do we do exactly what our employer/client wants even if that may not be for the best of our community? Do we spend most of our time working and what’s left with family/friends? Do we ever spend time in prayer? Perhaps it’s a good time to reflect on the Civil War – in which more people died in our country than in all the wars combined – and meditate on what President Lincoln said at Gettysburg. https://lnkd.in/esTB3uBf

Today, as we observe September 11th, we pause to reflect on a day that forever changed the course of history. It’s a day to honor those who lost their lives and to pay tribute to the countless acts of heroism and solidarity that emerged in the aftermath. More than 20 years have passed, but we will never forget those who perished that day nor those who sprang to action to save lives and protect our nation. #NeverForget #September11 #Remembrance #Remembering911

Excellent article on our state of politics today! Please read.
“This is not who we are” is, to my ear, getting to sound too much like the equally trite “our thoughts and prayers are with them,” intoned by politicians and other civic leaders in the wake of the many mass shooting events that plague the United States.
I’m tired of hearing politicians say ‘This is not who we are’ after political violence
