Article just published in Land Use Policy: "Better policy to support climate change action in the built environment: A framework to analyse and design a policy portfolio". Available open access at: https://lnkd.in/gvzJDc9J. We Identify seven key attributes of an appropriate and effective policy portfolio for climate change action in the built environment: inclusion, prescription, discretion, legibility, vertical integration, horizontal integration, and balance. We present a framework that can be used to analyse the appropriateness of the content of existing policy instruments and portfolios of policy instruments to address climate change goals. Additionally, the framework can be used to guide the development and design of policy portfolios for urbanising areas to address the challenge of climate change effectively and adequately. This is very cool thinking that should influence Canadian climate resilience and innovation policy, and how we collaborate with our closest ally and trading partner. ?? Also I’m increasingly curious about how we can take some of the incredible innovation happening in precision agriculture and share the benefits in the (non-profit oriented and thus more cash strapped) nature-based solutions space - for example, how might the AI/drone scouting and weeding tech that is growing in leaps and bounds right now be turned into solutions for tackling invasive species at a bigger scale?
The Biden-Harris Administration has published a first-of-kind Climate Resilience Game Changers Assessment, further catalyzing American innovation and investment identifying 28 critical technologies, management practices, and institutional and financial tools to drive transformation and adaptation to changing climate conditions and risks and creating good-paying jobs, improving community well-being, and advancing environmental justice. This effort builds off the National Climate Resilience Framework presented by The White House last September-highlights innovative technologies, practices, and strategies that, with additional research, development, and investment, can help us build a #ClimateResilient Nation. How can we design an effective policy portfolio to support climate change actions in the built environment? We address this critical question in our newly published open access paper in Land Use Policy: https://lnkd.in/dYW56_Yz

In this International Affairs article, Florian Krampe, McKenzie Johnson, Dahlia S., Farah H., Cedric de Coning and I lay out what we see as a research agenda for climate change and peacebuilding. Great to work with this multidisciplinary team. https://lnkd.in/eRNFmT9a Climate change is having profound effects on global security and peacebuilding efforts. While existing research has mainly focused on the link between climate change and conflict, it has largely overlooked the complex interplay between climate change, conflict-affected states and peacebuilding. Climate change exacerbates existing vulnerabilities in conflict-affected societies by adding stress to livelihoods and negatively impacting food, water and energy security. This is particularly concerning as climate change is often felt most acutely in settings where public institutions are already failing to meet the population's needs. Consequently, climate change can contribute to exacerbating grievances and hinder the ability to maintain, reinforce and build peace. Although practitioners in the peacebuilding field are beginning to respond to the effects of climate change, academic research has not adequately addressed the question of how climate change affects peacebuilding and how peacebuilding strategies can respond effectively. To fill this gap, a multidisciplinary approach drawing from climate security, environmental peacebuilding, environmental studies, and peace and conflict studies is needed in order to develop a research agenda that encompasses the intersections of climate change and peacebuilding. By recognizing the importance of climate change in peacebuilding efforts, this research agenda aims to provide critical insights and guide future studies.

???What does the future of U.S. climate and energy policy look like? This week, the Council’s Director of Policy and Government Relations, Conner Brace, participated in a panel hosted by the The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University and the Climate Solutions Fund. Joined by an expert panel featuring Christopher Barnard, Luke Bolar, Andrea Strimling Yodsampa, PhD, and Clarence Edwards, Connor delved into the critical role that civil society plays in fostering bipartisan support for climate action. As we look ahead, it's clear that building broad, cross-sector consensus will be key to shaping a viable energy future for the U.S.?

#ClimateVulnerability is one of the most important and challenging issues in 21st century public policy. I’m thrilled to share the news on the publication of our Expert Opinion Report on Developing a Climate Vulnerability Index! This project has been a labor of love, spanning over a year, and I couldn't be prouder of the result. Understanding and addressing climate vulnerability is a complex challenge, and it has been a journey to bring together over 100 experts who generously volunteered their time and expertise. Navigating the diverse perspectives and ensuring everyone's input was incorporated was no small feat, but the dedication of each expert has truly made this report comprehensive and potentially very impactful. If you're looking to dive into the nuances of climate vulnerability, especially in the Israeli context, I invite you to read this report. It distills months of research and collaboration into a comprehensive guide that I believe will inform and inspire action. It’s a good read, I promise! The project was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and supported by Heinrich B?ll Stiftung Tel Aviv. The link to the English version of the report can be found in the first comment below.

?? Yesterday's Climate Proof not only covered the top stories in adaptation and resilience finance, tech, and policy -- it also included *23* links to other useful articles, research, and reports: all the content adaptation-heads could wish for! ?? One featured announcement is the reintroduction of the Safeguarding America’s Future and Environment (SAFE) Act in the US Congress. ?? The bill would require federal and state natural resource agencies to form a working group to plan and implement a long-term national climate change adaptation strategy for fish, wildlife, and plants based on the best available science. ?? It would also codify the existing Climate Adaptation Science Center Network, which develops and compiles scientific information, tools, and strategies for adaptation. The bill was reintroduced last week by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Representative Matt Cartwright (D-PA). #climaterisk #climatechange #adaptaton #resilience #sustainability #conservation
