At a session during ship.energy Summit in Lisbon last week, part of #PortugalShippingWeek, our partner, Sofia Fürstenberg Stott, challenged the audience to envision an alternative 2035, where policies and regulations are developed with a sustainable future in mind. ? Through better imagining of the #future we want, policy-makers and regulators could enable a maritime energy shift that incorporates a broader perspective for #sustainability. The onset of renewal energies into the sector will require access to new infrastructure, feedstock sustainability, recruitment and retention of people with new skills, a rewrite of energy trade flows and deeper needs of transparency and accountability. ? At Fürstenberg Maritime Advisory, we advocate for embracing a broader perspective. By extending our engagement beyond traditional boundaries and collaborating with sectors encountering similar challenges, the maritime industry can unlock opportunities to mitigate risks and address critical issues that are often missed because the industry is too narrowly focused. ? Keynote speakers Liu Ye and Amanda Lake set the scene with a masterclass and update on status, and were then joined by panelists Jessica Akande Ph.D. David Ponder John Willis and Xiaochang Wang. A question from the floor - should we really be building more digesters given what we know about emissions? Absolutely, more gas is great, but let’s make sure we capture it all, including the 15% or more that we know we are currently losing.
