An interesting and useful analogy for those leaders of ours that need outside of the box ways to think and reflect upon their management styles and coinciding actions.

Favorite - Work on your Weaknesses. I think this is the hardest rule to follow b/c it's uncomfortable, it's hard to realize you aren't good at all things and spending time improving yourself takes work, humility and willpower. But, it's the one thing that you can do to make yourself better every single day and since so many people refuse to spend time on their weaknesses, it can give you a nice advantage over your competitors. Not sure what your weaknesses are? You need to set aside quiet time to figure out what you what you are weak at. Our egos often try to protect us by helping us quickly ignore/forget the things we do wrong. But, it's knowing yourself first and then seeking self-improvement that will be the game changer. So, ask your spouse, a true friend and always get real with yourself by taking time to jot down what you did great and what you screwed up. This should include assessing your interactions with others (communication), interactions with yourself, following through on goals, mistakes, blunders and full blowouts that you know were not the best you could be. #motivationtobethebest

?? Being human : the heart of QHSE and DE&I ?? "What matters is the size of your heart and the strength of your character". These words from the 1960s Addams Family show still resonate powerfully today. In our modern world of QHSE management and DE&I initiatives, it's easy to get caught up in metrics, policies, and procedures. But at its core, true quality, safety, inclusivity and equity stem from our basic humanity. Being human means: ? Showing compassion when a colleague is struggling ? Speaking up about unsafe conditions, even when it's uncomfortable? ? Actively listening to diverse perspectives with an open mind ? Extending a helping hand, not because it's required, but because it's right As leaders, we must nurture work environments where employees feel safe to be their authentic selves. Where character and kindness are valued as much as credentials. Where we lift each other up, especially in difficult times. QHSE and DE&I aren't just corporate programs - they're reflections of how we treat each other as human beings. By leading with empathy, integrity and genuine care for others, we create cultures of belonging, safety and continuous improvement. In a world that often prioritizes appearance over substance, let's recommit to what truly matters - the size of our hearts and the strength of our character. How are you fostering humanity in your organization? Share your thoughts below. #BeingHuman #Leadership #QHSE #DEI #WorkplaceCulture

When you have a clear vision of what you want and a determined plan to achieve it, the universe seems to align in your favour. Opportunities that once seemed out of reach start to appear, and people who can help you on your journey come into your life. It’s as if the energy you put into your goals attracts the right circumstances and resources. This phenomenon isn’t just about luck; it’s about the power of intention and action. When you focus your mind and efforts on a specific outcome, you create a ripple effect that influences the world around you, making your dreams more attainable.

What a lovely reminder that at a young age children don’t really use social comparisons to understand themselves or their peers. The way young children think about themselves is not affected much by how they might be different - physically, socially, cognitively - to their peers. In fact, they are most likely to compare themselves against themselves (e.g “I couldn’t read this word last week and now I can read it!”) From around age 8 (school year 3 in the UK) this begins to change as children are more likely to use social comparisons as evidence for assessing their own abilities and characteristics (e.g “the other children are really good at sitting on the mat quietly but I’m not good at that”). By the age of 9 or 10 years, research suggests that nearly half of children use social comparison to try and understand themselves, and by the early teenage years (years 8/9 in secondary school in the UK) this increases to around 80%. The way these comparisons are used also become increasingly more negative towards themselves throughout their teenage years. Parents, teachers and professionals need to work hard in these early years to help children build the foundations for positive self identities and acceptance of everyones differences and uniqueness. For children and young people, being able to understand, accept and advocate for their needs is an important buffer for their self-esteem and the ways they evaluate themselves in later childhood. This is why in my assessment work with schools and families I try and help each and every child to see their unique strengths and qualities. If you feel a pupil in your school may benefit from an assessment that uncovers their needs in education whilst also validating them as a unique and important individual then please feel free to explore my website drrosepsychology.com Sources: Dijkstra et al., 2008; Keil, McClintock, Kramer, & Platow, 1990; Harter, 2014; LPE van der Aar, 2018; Pfeifer & Peake, 2012
