Dear employers: please start paying your apprentices more…?? ?? It’s 2024, so I shouldn’t still be seeing apprenticeship job listings that advertise a salary less than 10k for 35 hours a week. That’s just ridiculous. (Also maybe illegal?)?? ? Also note to aspiring apprentices, please be cautious of what company you choose to do your apprenticeship with. ?? Unfortunately some companies do not have your best interest in mind and instead want to exploit you for cheap labour. I’m just stating facts????♂? Note for aspiring apprentices! "The most common recruitment methods were word of mouth or personal recommendations (70%), followed by adverts placed on social media (56%), and adverts placed on the company’s own website (51%)." This is taken from the Government Social Research Employer Skills Survey 2022 (recently updated). It relates to all job vacancies but is just as relevant to apprenticeships. Don't be disheartened by the lack of suitable apprenticeship vacancies being advertised on apprenticeship portals. Take action! News from the UK Building an Apprenticeships Nation Building an Apprenticeships Nation means integrating apprenticeships into the way that everyone sees work, study and recruitment. They are not a minority pursuit for people who didn’t choose university, or just a pathway dedicated to ancient, guilded trades (though they’re great for those too!) They are about spreading opportunities to enter every trade possible, in away that allows the employer to specify your training. Currently nearly 70% of occupations can now be entered via an apprenticeship – and we intend to build on this! Apprenticeships should be part of the conversation at every Sixth Form careers fair, and whenever businesses seek to hire specific skills.
