??? This November, we’re giving up our beds so youth facing homelessness can find safe ones. Our team (Mike Burns CMCA, AMS & Jane Wismer, CMCA, AMS, PCAM) is participating in the Covenant House Sleep Out this November, where we’ll spend a night without the comfort of our own beds to support young people who lack safe shelter. By giving up just one night’s sleep, we’re helping Covenant House provide essential services like education, job training, medical care, mental health counseling, and legal aid — everything these young people need to build stable, independent lives. Join us in raising awareness and supporting this cause. Every contribution makes a difference. ?? Today is both World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day. At Look Ahead, we offer care, support and housing to a range of people, many of whom have mental health needs and/or have either been at risk of, or experienced homelessness. To mark the occasion, we’ve compiled a new blog with a few special updates, these include: 1) Our plans to trial a ground-breaking new mental health support service based on the world-renowned "Trieste" model in partnership with the East London NHS Foundation Trust. 2) Plans for more inclusive therapeutic dance sessions as part of our AnyBody Can Dance project with new funding from Arts Council England. 3) Our expansion of talking therapies across our services supporting people with experience of homelessness. Henrico CASA prioritizes the mental health care of children and their families. Adverse experiences like abuse, neglect, and traumatic loss impact not only a child’s present mental (and physical) health, but their future health, as well. By intervening early and leveraging resources, we can mitigate what could be negative health outcomes in the future. In a country of current economic struggles there has been an increase in individuals suffering from homelessness. Centers have helped these individuals time and time again but there are still many individuals who are suffering to re-establish themselves back into society. Providing services such as mental health availability as well as education is also as important as shelter when it comes to motivating someone to work towards bettering their life. Here is a literature review and research into the topic of homelessness, and how their mental health and lack of education has kept these individuals from re-establishing themselves.

Homelessness is a complex issue with many contributing factors, including mental health. During "Homelessness Awareness Month," we want to recognize the intersection of these two components. The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program with OhioGuidestone provides comprehensive support for individuals experiencing serious mental illness who are unsheltered. Our ACT teams work closely with clients in community settings rather than hospitals and clinics to address their unique needs in a comfortable, familiar environment while helping them build a stable, fulfilling life. Learn more about ACT programing and how we’re making a difference in the lives of our unhoused neighbors. https://lnkd.in/gFaP8rpw

September is National Recovery Month?? This month is all about raising awareness of substance misuse and mental health recovery, it serves as a time to celebrate the successes of the people who have navigated the challenges of substance misuse or mental health. We recognise the dedication of our staff, families, and communities who support people through their recovery. It fosters a sense of hope, reduces stigma, and demonstrates that recovery is possible, emphasising the importance of treatment and mental health services?? ??We are proud to say 70% of our staff have lived experience themselves. We value those personal experiences and recognise that people's strengths are built upon them. Lived experience is having a direct and plausible experience of the challenges that our learners face within their communities such as drugs and alcohol, mental health, debt, homelessness, domestic abuse, trauma, and long-term unemployment. Having a relative knowledge of these situations gives people a unique set of skills and insight as well as an understanding of the social barriers and pitfalls which create the gaps in our services. By developing people's lived experience we are focussing on their strengths, recognising the faults in our society and helping people who've been through difficulties to not only solve their own problems but the problems of their communities?? ??As part of our monthly newsletter, we have a 'Meet the Team' series where our staff members share their lived experiences and how the overcame their challenges.
