On September 10, we will announce the winning organization of the Workforce Team of the Year. Part of the annual WIB Workforce Innovation Awards, the?Workforce Team of the Year?nourishes meaningful collaborations, leverages community resources and exemplifies the importance of breaking down silos. This nonprofit workforce development partner and its staff work tirelessly to understand the regional workforce ecosystem, recognize potential impactful collaborations and champion workforce initiatives that will "move the needle."??There are three nominees, all worthy of this distinction: BE NKY Growth Partnership: Since reorganizing in 2019, developing workforce solutions for NKY has become a top priority, and they have focused on developing a data-driven understanding of employers’ needs and the gaps that currently exist. In 2023, BE NKY met with100+ businesses to learn their perspective on the economic and workforce. BE NKY has used the resulting data to develop and support a wide range of workforce-development initiatives, including NKY Works. Talent growth through attraction, retention, and skill alignment is of critical importance to the team. City of Covington:?Covington's Economic Development Department began budgeting funds to support workforce development initiatives 2 years ago. Specific targets included un- and underemployed Covington residents and Covington businesses. They partnered with NKADD to build workplace skills through on-the-job training. They worked with Esperanza Latino Center to make training and job matching services available to our newest residents. With the Enzweiler Building Institute, they opened a construction trades school and created the Covington Academy of Heritage Trades. These partnerships have impacted the lives of more than 400 individuals and their families. Kentucky Adult Education at Jefferson Community and Technical College:??This team uses collaborative efforts to develop skills within their customers, recognizing the benefit of one-to-one career coaching and industry-recognized credentials in. They serve as a worksite for youth interns needing to get experience and gain some transferable skills. In doing so, this agency has closely adhered to federal regulations detailed by the Department of Labor and been responsive in reporting work time and providing documentation of interns placed at their site.
