These practices prevent suffering, control populations humanely, and protect both animal and human health. As a rescue mom to 34 cats, a late, great husky ( Argo ! ) , other tiny pups and terrapins ??, my heart aches for the pets caught in the chaos and tragedy of the California fires. ?? So many of our fur babies are scared, lost, and in desperate need of care —and they can’t ask for help on their own. They can’t tweet, post or even know where to ask for help . This is our moment to step up. ???? Rescue organizations and shelters are working around the clock, but they’re overwhelmed and need our support. Here’s how we can help: ?? The devastation from Helene is far worse than most realize. Whole cities and towns in the Southeast have been destroyed. No food, water or communication. If you are able, help in any way you can. If not monetarily, go through your closets and see if you have any clothing, bedding, baby items, toiletries, etc., that you can spare. Look for drop off locations in your area. And don't forget the animals. Pet food and supplies are desperately needed too. Many people will go without just to make sure their pets are fed and safely secured. Never before have we faced such a devastating crisis. The wildfires that tore through our #LosAngeles community have left us with nothing. The founder of our rescue, whose personal home served as the main hub of operations, lost everything in the blaze. Her home has been a place of refuge for countless animals over the years, but now, it is a pile of ash. There is NOTHING left. Even more heartbreaking, much of our foster network has suffered the same fate—entire homes burned to the ground, leaving our team and animals with NOWHERE to go. Thankfully, all the animals and humans were safely evacuated, but they left with the fur on their backs and nothing more. So, now, we have zero supplies to care for them. We are doing everything possible to keep these animals safe, but the situation is critical. We can’t keep this up for much longer without help.
