As we continue preparing programs and structures for our new Middle School, it was wonderful to convene Westbourne Grammar School’s Professional Reading Group for its first Term 4 gathering. This morning, we enjoyed an insightful and in-depth discussion of two articles centred around ways of cultivating purpose, connection and belonging in the Middle Years (links below). Some of the wonderings that were shared included: ?What special connections with trusted adults - a teacher, counsellor, nurse - get ‘lost’ at key transition points during a student’s journey (i.e., Kindergarten-Prep, Year 6-7)? ?How can we ensure that connections with trusted adults are retained or established swiftly during these transitions? ?How do we currently gather data about our students’ school experience? ?In what ways are our students encouraged to share their stories? ?What other opportunities could we explore to allow more of our students to share their stories and experiences? ?In Careers Education discussions, should the focus be on future jobs, or future impact? ?? https://lnkd.in/gMTJ-yYr ?? https://lnkd.in/gJwHY6a6 Paul Rose Liam Bassett Naomi White Joel Hogarth Athena Kavaleris

However, it's time to rethink our approach, particularly when it comes to elementary education. While seasoned high school educators bring valuable skills, the formative years of elementary schooling require a specialized touch. That's why it's crucial to take a different stance and prioritize hiring professional teachers with expertise in elementary education.
