Happy Feast Day to one of our dear patron saints, Saint Therese of Lisieux. With an early death at the age of 24, she became the youngest Doctor of the Church! When she died, she promised to spend her heaven doing good on earth. The “Shower of Roses” she promised has become a powerful torrent in the Church since then. From Catholic Answers ???? Question: Why is St. Therese of Lisieux (1873–1897) a patron of aviators? Answer: In the early years of the twentieth century, St. Therese’s spiritual testament Story of a Soul became a sensation in Europe and, later, around the world, bringing Therese a legion of devotees. Students of Therese’s life would eventually call this period the “storm of glory,” because of all of the favors from heaven it was reported that Therese obtained for those petitioning her intercession. During this time, World War I broke out and many soldiers on both sides reported seeing visions of a young nun—Therese had not yet been canonized—comforting wounded men of various nationalities along the battle lines. In response to this, many soldiers began carrying pictures of Therese with them into battle. She became a special favorite of French pilots, and this is where her intercession for aviators began. #stthereseoflisieux #littleflower #october1st #therese #showerofroses #doctorofthechurch #frenchpilots #france #patronofaviators #catholicaviationassociation #catholic

I was struck by this last week during my devotionals. The story shared was about an interview that took place many years ago between a US Naval Admiral and a young cadet.?One of the key questions, the Admiral asked him was “When you were in school and in all your life, did you always do your best?”?Man – what a question.?I know what my answer would have been as did this young man.?He wanted to say Yes but answered honestly and said No.??The Admiral’s follow up question was short but powerful – “Why not?”. This young cadet’s name was Jimmy Carter, the same one that went on to become President of the US and write a book called Why Not the Best? This is not meant to be a political but rather about how it relates to what the Lord wants from us.?He wants us to give our best always and this devotional centered around things that we must all understand. What would we die for??In John 15:13 – Jesus talks about this – “The greatest love is shown when a person lays down his life for his friends.”?BOOM.?It’s not what they say but rather what they DO. What are we willing to sacrifice??In Timothy 2:3 – Jesus shares “Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”?It’s not about doing things that make us comfortable but doing things where we need to sacrifice that makes the impact.? How do we eliminate distractions??In 2 Timothy 2:4 states “No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.”??Who are we trying to please? Greatness comes from loving him and loving our neighbor.?The first & greatest commandment.?My challenge is how can I use more of my resources to help others.

Honoring Sacrifice: The Meaning of Remembrance Day Each year on November 11, countries around the world pause to honor the end of World War I, paying tribute to the countless individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace. Known as Remembrance Day in Commonwealth countries, this day is dedicated to reflecting on the bravery of those who fought and the deep losses endured during the “war to end all wars.” At 11 a.m., a moment of silence is observed, symbolizing a collective respect and gratitude for the soldiers, medics, and civilians who gave their lives in defense of freedom. Remembrance Day is not just about remembering the past—it’s a call to value peace in our present and future. By honoring the sacrifices of those who protected our world, we renew our commitment to avoiding the horrors of war. The red poppy, worn as a symbol of remembrance, reminds us of both the tragedy of conflict and the resilience of those who serve. As we remember, we hold hope that such devastation will not be repeated. Remembrance Day serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of war and the enduring human desire for peace. Let us honor those who served by striving for a world where such sacrifices are no longer necessary.

As I reflect on the state of our world nowadays—wars, conflicts, and the deep-seated hatred that drives some to harm others, even in the name of God—a word came to my heart: "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord." (Hebrews 12:14) True peace is never found in supporting what is wrong. I stand with those who walk in the ways of God, embracing peace as a path, with love as our compass, and the wisdom to walk away from harm's way. I plan to explore this further in my upcoming book, with a chapter titled, "A Battle Won Without Military Might," reflecting on the power God, peace and righteousness over force. May the Holy Spirit guide us and deliver us from all wickedness??

Today 307AD Roman Emperor Constantine marries Fausta, daughter of the Emperor Maximian, later murdering her in 326 A Military Life of Constantine the Great Get this book UK at https://amzn.to/3oPMHSO Get the book USA at https://amzn.to/3H5YKX6 Much of Constantine I's claim to lasting fame rests upon his sponsorship of Christianity, and many works have been published assessing whether his apparent conversion was a real religious experience or a cynical political manoeuvre. However his path to sole rule of the Roman Empire depended more upon the ruthless application of military might than upon his espousal of Christianity. He fought numerous campaigns, many of them against Roman rivals for Imperial power, most famously defeating Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. In this new study, Ian Hughes assesses whether Constantine would have deserved the title 'the Great' for his military achievements alone, or whether the epithet depends upon the gratitude of Christian historians. All of Constantine's campaigns are narrated and his strategic and tactical decisions analysed. The organization, strengths and weaknesses of the Roman army he inherited are described and the effect of both his and his predecessors' reforms discussed. The result is a fresh analysis of this pivotal figure in European history from a military perspective.

WHEN GOD TURNS THE TABLE !! KEY VERSE: (ESTHER 9:1). History is largely a record of the extraordinary events in the affairs of man. It observes unexpected outcomes that appear to run against the normal course of play. There are moving stories, for instance, of how suddenly a military force on the winning streak fails to sustain the steam and begins to experience huge losses. There are individual cases in sports where, after a seemingly unassailable start, the athlete becomes complacent and loses the race to a less expected contestant. One of the most celebrated of such reversals in recorded history is the one orchestrated by God in the book of Esther. Continue: blog.timeus.org.ng
