Social commerce is where social media and e-commerce intertwine. Consumers scroll social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram for entertainment and information. More recently, consumers are using social media to browse and shop online. If brands want to reach a new pool of consumers, they must meet shoppers where they are. According to the 2023 Online Consumer Behavior Global Report by Rithum, 63% of consumers aged 18-25 said they had been influenced to make a purchase after seeing a product promoted by a brand on social media in the past 12 months. Among 26-35yo this is still more than half of consumers (53%) while it's 40% among 36-45yo. The report is based on a Dynata powered survey among 6,000 online shoppers across the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Sweden & Denmark.
