?? The Power of Befriending: Building Connections That Last a Lifetime ?? In our befriending service, we witness the incredible impact that simple human connection can bring. Befriending does more than alleviate loneliness, it creates genuine friendships, builds confidence, and transforms lives. Some of our volunteer partnerships have grown into decade-long bonds. What began as an hour given to a stranger has blossomed into a meaningful, enduring friendship. For many, our volunteers’ support is a lifeline. Here are just a few examples: ? Weekly chats: Some clients simply enjoy a phone call or a cup of tea at home, sharing stories and laughter. ? Shared adventures: Others find joy in bus trips together, exploring new places they might not have felt confident visiting alone. Every visit, every call, every small moment shared is a reminder of the importance of connection. Our befriending volunteers bring vital companionship to those who need it most, and the gratitude from our clients is immeasurable. To our volunteers: thank you for your kindness and commitment. Walking in the cold and briefly experiencing life through the lens of homelessness can be a powerful way to foster empathy and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the homeless population Coldest Night of the Year did spectacular events that give us a glimpse of how streets look like in wintertime; it's the awareness that gives opportunity to fill the shoes who's in need that made us contribute to the the change that we need in our world. I'm aware of everything in the community because I've been everywhere and also being a volunteer and social worker allows me to make a positive impact in my community contribute to the well-being of others and meet them where they are—it is a fulfilling journey where compassion meets action, fostering positive change and connecting communities. I believe that volunteering requires genuine dedication and passion, not just for resume enhancement or for self-gain but to make a meaningful impact. Losing your home is one of the most stressful experiences a person can have. Memphis has faced a steady increase in eviction rates since before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data also shows that Black and Latinx residents have been disproportionately affected by evictions compared to white residents. ???? The second strategy in the Community Development plan is to ensure a right to legal representation for renters when they are facing eviction.
