Does reality emerge from causal structures? Episode 2 of the Quantum Foundations Podcast is out now! How can we solve the famous "measurement problem" of quantum theory? The Copenhagen interpretation fails to solve the problem, and the "Big Three" interpretations of quantum theory (objective collapse, many-worlds and Bohmian) have all failed to command consensus in the scientific community. In this podcast, Dr. Nick Ormrod suggests that we need a radical shift in our understanding of reality. He explains his new interpretation of quantum theory, developed with Prof. Jonathan Barrett, called the "Theory of Causal Balance": whereby events emerge from a web of causation. This theory combines ideas about change from ancient philosophy with recent developments in quantum foundations research, to suggest that reality ultimately emerges from causal structures.
