In honor of National Mentoring Month, we’re proud to recognize 2024 Carson Scholar Paul Speaks, a compassionate leader who is making a powerful impact as a peer mentor. Through this role, Paul provides critical support to fellow students, helping them navigate academic challenges, adjust to new environments and overcome personal obstacles. Beyond one-on-one mentoring, he is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, working to break down stigma and promote well-being within his community. Paul’s commitment goes beyond conversation; he is actively involved in creating projects aimed at supporting his peers. His dedication to uplifting others exemplifies the true spirit of mentorship, and we are honored to shine a spotlight on his inspiring work.

Ever experience something so profound it completely changed the trajectory of your life? For me, it was navigating a VERY heated divorce that cost me a relationship with my son. As hard as this journey has been, it has changed me (for the better) in astounding ways. Eventually, I decided to abandon my career as an engineer and turned to coaching parents. I scoured the internet looking for training programs, and I did find a couple. I paid a LOT of money to train in this space, but somehow the training fell flat. I ended up feeling completely unprepared as a coach: ? I had no idea how to acquire clients ? I had to continue my own research to REALLY learn the dynamics of alienation ? I didn't learn real strategies for helping parents ? Some of the things I did learn I had to unlearn because it was just plain bad advice ? I ended up with no confidence in my ability to help parents (at that time) The whole program seemed like fluff, even though on the surface it seemed legit and backed by people I thought were credible. ????, ???????? ?????? ?? ????? My business partner and I created our own training program! ...and we made sure to include all the things that are missing in other programs: ?? 6-month intensive mentorship alongside 2 experienced coaches ?? Teaching proven strategies that have worked again and again ? Built on 40+ (combined) years of high-conflict family dynamics experience ?? Monthly 1-on-1 mentoring PLUS weekly group coaching ?? Hands-on experience with real clients ?? Extensive research and resource library Whether you are a coach struggling to find solutions to alienation, a mental health professional looking to broaden your understanding, or a survivor of alienation wanting to help other parents, this program is for you! Send me a DM if you'd like to learn more. I'd love to connect with you!

Research with colleagues Nick Turner, Steve Granger, Shani Pupco and Julie Weatherhead shows how early socioeconomic status affects who becomes a leader later on--and who does not, isolating the critical role of children's self-control, mental health & personal mastery, and school quality. We also identify what can be done to level the playing field: Companies can invest in early childhood education, focus on what job candidates have done to overcome challenges rather than just awards & accolades, & provide targeted mentorship programs at schools and at work #leaderdevelopment #leadershipdevelopment https://lnkd.in/g9YzACyy

?? Breaking the Silence: Recognizing the Internal War Within ?? Growing up, many of us learned to keep the peace by staying quiet, but this often leads to an internal war as unresolved emotions and thoughts build up. ??? Here are five journal prompts to help you explore and understand this internal conflict: Identifying Silence: Reflect on a moment when you chose silence to keep the peace. What were you feeling inside during that moment? ?? The Cost of Peace: What emotional or mental price do you pay when you keep quiet? How does this affect your inner peace? ?? Voices Unheard: Write about what you wish you could have said in those moments of silence. What would your true voice have expressed? ?? Patterns of Silence: Can you identify patterns or themes in the situations where you typically remain silent? What triggers your silence? ?? Breaking the Cycle: Imagine a scenario where you break the silence. What would you do differently, and how would it make you feel? ?? These prompts can help you begin to process those unspoken words and feelings, potentially leading to greater internal clarity and peace. ??? ????Remember, CPtsd recovery is just one step at a time. ? A truth that many overlook: You don't need to have everything figured out to start. Don't overcomplicate things. Just start. Be consistent. This applies to everything in life. You might be thinking, “But 'it' is so hard, and now isn't the right time for x, y, or z reasons.” ?Real talk: When is the right time? There's seldom a perfect moment to start, so why not start now? You know what the "it" is that you think about, dream about, and aspire to actually do. I've been there, and I've helped many clients move from feeling stuck to where they want to go and how they want to feel. ? Need support? We all do! That's where a coach ?? , mentor, and community come in for support, accountability, and encouragement. ?? As a certified coach with a master's in clinical psychology from Columbia University and extensive experience working with hundreds of professionals, I provide personalized coaching to help individuals navigate challenges, break free from feeling stuck, and unlock their true potential. My approach is no-fluff, focused on real results and progress. My mission is to empower you to become the best version of yourself. Connect to chat and learn more. ?? Fun fact: I love the upward climb, which most people despise. Why? It's challenging and it reminds me that we can do hard things. We're stronger than we often realize and we're built for hard things!

“A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.” -John Wooden It was awesome to be welcomed back for a second time and get to work with the amazing Stephen Decatur High School coaching staff! Yesterday, we discussed building a supportive team culture & prioritizing student-athlete mental health and well-being. Their openness to discuss their experiences and suggestions for strategies showed that they all support each other as colleagues! These coaches and administrators are dedicated to providing a holistic environment for their student-athletes! #performancepsychology #sportpsychology #coaching

??Since 2008, SAYes has developed a comprehensive and systematic model of mentoring and transition planning, designed to provide support, guidance and advocacy for young people, who may not have a consistent adult role model in their lives. ??We’ve learned, through regular mentee feedback, that having a mentor to talk to each week can significantly increase a young person’s levels of confidence, resilience and overall mental health. #mentalhealth #mentalmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentoring
